Stone cold good stuff Conrad. Love the Jay and the Juvi best. went out shooting myself today and all you can find here right now is geese, mallards and crows. I did see one red bird but he was younger and faster than me.

Thanks for your picks Gary! I hope the species count grows for you soon!

Conrad, Ol' Buddy this is a fine (detailed) set
the 500 really does perform it's best when un-aided
but the extender sure makes up for our lousy stealth abilities. http://www.pic4ever.com/images/desertsmile.gif
I find myself using it more than I used to. Looks like we are in for some rainy
weather for a few days.

Yes we really really do suck at our stealth abilities Hope you can come up next week bro! Sunny Monday!

Hard to pick one favorite here buddy, the Semiplamated Plover is razor sharp with nice BG, the Black-necked Stilt is $$$ but the White Ibis might be the shot of the set. Call me when you upgrade to the 600 and want to get rid of that bad copy 500 you have . Well done man.
Randy
When the new 6 comes out you'll be first in line brother!
Great shots all
Personally I cannot see much of a difference in IQ between the bare 500 and the 500+1.4Tc.
The latter seems a little more susceptible to noise but its not that much to avoid using it.

When the BG is too close to the subject, the difference between f/4 and f/5.6 if very very noticeable. Noise is probably similar with or without the TC, its more a function of ISO settings. Thanks for stopping by Paul!
