p.1 #1 · B&H What are you thinking???

I've been a B&H customer since the 1980's. I've spent over $200K with them. See my profile. This is gear for my own use. You would think they would appreciate the business. I placed a back order for a Canon 1D X yesterday and they canceled my order without explanation. I contact sales and they say that they can not help me. So I contact customer service and they say they can't help me. I just get the run around. They say I've purchased too much gear so I must be a reseller. I say that's silly I have all my gear listed on my profile here on fredmiranda.com and I offer to PDF all my registered gear from the Canon and Nikon web sites to prove I still own 99% of everything I've ever bought from them. And I've purchased a lot. The only photo gear I've ever sold is when a version II of a lens comes out I've sold the version I. And that is for a handful of items just like everyone here. But they decline. I think that's a hell of a nice way to treat a good customer like myself. Here is my profile on FM and I've purchased almost all of this from B&H:

I would think a reseller would purchase multiples of hot items rather than 1later of everything... Can you just create a new account and have it sent to your neighbor?

That's baffling. It's their loss apparently!

I also have back order with them from the 1st day on:
Nikon D800E
Nikon D4
Canon 5D Mark III
Canon 24-70 version II
Canon 1D X

I guess all these are canceled and I got from the top of the list at B&H to the bottom of the list at another camera store. All my back orders from January 9th - gone. That puts me from getting most of these next week to getting them many months from now if I am lucky. That's a lot of months lost to photography for me.

How many other people has this happened to?

There are warranty issues if I buy under my wife's name for example.

Recommendations for a new camera store for a really good customer?

Exactly! I've purchased exactly one of each item for my own use with the exception of well maybe my 1.4x teleconverters - I've got two of each for when I take out two big guns, some cleaning supplies and disks for my photo storage. All my cameras are one copy of each - same with all the other lenses. It's bizarre.

Unless you happen to run a photography rental business it appears that they are simply trying to help you with an obviously severe case of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome).

There is still something to be said about having a relationship with a local pro camera shop, if a good one exists in your area.

While I buy my fair share from B&H and others online, primarily for harder to find items they have in stock that would take a local shop weeks to order in specially, I buy from my dealer major purchases such as Canon pro bodies and L lenses. I will often receive in demand new product well before most others have their backorders filled from the major suppliers such as B&H and Amazon. With new releases there are rarely price savings when buying from the big online shops. Everyone sells at the same introductory price, so IMO, I'd rather have the dealer's cut of the sale go to someone local.

I have to believe that if you persist with B&H, track down their CEO and speak with her/him, you'll find that you get treated much better. I can't imagine any CEO of a company like that not appreciating a customer such as yourself.

Maybe you can get back to the top of the list again in the process.

The exercise, fruitful or not in the end, would be really interesting to us flies on the wall!

Tweet this thread and also send a link to their PR/Communications person along with the CEO.

Watch how fast they go into damage control!

I just got the run around too from one guy to the next. They gave me the attitude of this isn't my problem let me pass you on to someone else. I told them l was a customer since the 1980's and had six figures if purchases from B&H which he clearly could see on my account. They didn't want to deal with it so I told him look I'm in the waiting room while my wife is having oral surgery, I can't just keep on getting transferred from one person to the next, can't you own this issue for me and handle and get back with me with what B&H needs? Nope! Nice!

Tweet and Facebook would get the word out and stir things up a bit. Nobody wants bad press especially on social network sites.

Good entertainment for the peanut gallery

So if I added this up correctly $194,136.11 in orders since 2004 alone plus with the four bodies, grips flashed, etc I have on back order that's well North of $220K in business with B&H.
