Really? The 50/1.8 looks good to me. Super sharp across the frame at f/4.0, and super sharp in the centre at all apertures with pretty good bokeh and OSS... for $300.
Can't help but wonder what the sharpness graph would look like on the 5N with the 30 Macro. The 50/1.8 looks like it was designed for wide open shooting. Looks to have amazing performance right in the middle at f/1.8.
I think you have to keep it in perspective a bit, though. The 50mm f/1.8 is priced similar to f/1.4 lenses, but has OSS and performs at about the same level. I'd rather have f/1.4, but a stellar performer at that price with stabilization is really tempting. I might pull the trigger on one just to have another AF lens for NEX, but at the same time I could probably search for a couple months to get a used Sigma for my Canon.
The price of the 50/1.8 is very high if you compare to what other manufacturers charge for full frame standards. This should be cheaper to make. Once it it is around £70 used I might consider buying one.
As a macro lens, I have been extremely pleased with the 30mm. With all the alt 25-35mm options available I have never wondered about its performance outside of that application.

They're also much bigger than the Sony 50 OSS and they do not have the ring type PZ motor that makes the Sony 50 very fast.
If you refer to AF speed then I read at least one report where a guy with 5N and 50/1.8 OSS complains that it hunts most of the time, even in broad daylight. Unfortunately, it is in Hebrew so you'll have to take my word that he actually says that.

I'd bet the 50/1.8 would also have better borders and edges on the 5N. The borders and edges in the PZ test are very poor on the 50 below f4, compared to just about any other 50 test out there (even the Sony A-mount 50/1.8 test.)

Happy shooting,

I unfortunately can't read that, but did they mention the new AF firmware fix for the 5N?

If they had just made it a 45/1.8 I guess you wouldnt say the same thing

In English at least, it doesn't seem to be a problem for other people so far.
I don't plan on buying this lens anyway though because of my Contax G 45mm F2.

This is the the only fast 50mm made with stabilization built-in.
