Keep in mind that from the standpoint of many average people, the bigger your DSLR and the larger and more obtrusive looking your lens is, the more professional you appear.

Don't assume the D600+Zoom will have better AF than the NEX-7 and LA-EA2, AF performance should be comparable overall and the NEX/LA-EA2 whould be faster on the centre point.

I'd take the 16-50 over the 16-80, it's better optically and mechanically, only marginally heavier and AF's faster and quieter. You give up a little reach, but that's just a good reason to track down a cheap 85/2.8 SAM to cover the difference.

I've done some event work with the NEX-7, 16-50 and LA-EA1 (so slow AF or MF) with few issues. I rather miss that lens (sold it over the summer during a significant cash pinch, just waiting to see what the Zeiss E mount zoom is before deciding on re-acquisition as I'd like to avoid DT lenses as much as possible and keep my A mount investment full-frame).

What's the best option for a release for the NEX 7. I didn't realize it doesn't have a port for a cable release. Anyone using a remote wireless remote?

The Sony IR release is it (or a knock-off). This is one of the most frustrating aspects of the NEX-7, and thankfully one that has been resolved with the 5R and 6 (assuming you have an Android or iPhone) via the PlayMemories app which has remote release functionality.

Thanks, just picked up an Opteka for $7 on Amazon. Does it have to be aimed at the front of the camera?

Yeah, very sad, but probably quite true.

Wow, this new NEX-3N is stupidly small. With the 16-50 or the new 20/2.8 pancake, it's barely any larger than the RX-100, and about the same price.

I hadn't seen it before, Al, so I had to look it up. Gizmodo has a photo up. Looks like the NEX version of the EP Mini.

Can someone speculate on how the G lenses might work with a future FF NEX--- the 28mm and up, at least?

Also, they announced the RM-VPR1 wired remote for NEX cameras with the multishoe. It looks like it uses usb... I wonder if it's actually sending digital codes, or just open/close connection on two wires.

Partitura -- if you are the "the official tour photographer", it will be prudent to have more than camera. From what you've described, you should be taking both the NEX and the Nikon along with spare batteries, cards, etc.

I have a NEX-7 and a several Canon DSLRs. I bought the NEX specifically to use in social situations to avoid the "...larger and more obtrusive..." impact and I've been pretty satisfied with it. But I'm not particularly in the position to need to to shoot quickly so I won't attempt to comment on the speed to focus aspect of your question.

Well the 28mm doesn't play well with NEX-7 so there is a good chance it will not play well (at least as far as color cast) on an FF NEX; a real bummer if you ask me since it's one of my favorite lenses on the NEX-6. I would guess the 45/2 and 90/2.8 shouldn't have any major problems and the 35/2 is a toss up (it was find on the 5N... never tried it on the 7). I didn't mention the zoom but that's because it so uncommon and unsupported by some adapters (and it apparently has corner issues at 35mm). Ultimately this is a guess on my part and a crude extrapolation from results (my own and published) with the NEX-7. Guess we'll have to wait and see what they announce at the end of 2013/beginning of 2014. In the mean time I plan on enjoying my NEX-6

the 45 and 90 are known to work well on the NEX-7, I know sebboh shoots with the 45/7 combo regularly with no issues.

The 28/2.8 & 45/2 look good on the 7, the 28 does minor color shift,
The FF should be better than the 7 if the designers listened to us all wine about the color shift, but only when it's in the hands of someone with WA RF lenses willed know for sure.

A new color choice for NEX
