p.1 #1 · extreme sports camera carry system?

I've been shooting extreme-ish sports for a few years now and I'm looking for a better way to go about carrying my gear for quick access in awkward places.I've been using a thinktank digital holster 20 or dakine sequence backpack depending on the situation. The backpack and holster are both awesome but they provide limited access to gear in tight spots.

While skiing a 40 degree pitch above terminal cliffs I don't have the luxury of taking of my bag and accessing gear, same with rock climbing. I've seen Christian Pondella's video on how he clips his holster to the waist belt on his pack. Does anyone else do this ? I've tried it but found it annoying as it keeps hitting my leg while skinning (climbing up with skis on), but maybe I'm doing it wrong?

A lot this type of photography is run and gun for me because I'm part of the group and moving through the mountains quickly and safely is very important. The idea of a chest mount does not appeal to me for a number of reasons. Any thoughts or input from others who do this type of photography would be great. I shoot with a 5d/7d and 24L or 70-200 f/4 for size references
Thanks for your help.

Great question. I use a Lowepro bag that I think is called a fast back now but it has two shoulder straps (I dont know if they make mine anymore). It is a single strap with a waist belt that lets you wear it as a back pack but by unclipping the waist you can access the camera without taking off the pack. It works nicely for what it is. I have used it rock climbing and hiking quite a bit and it is the only solution that I have come up with other than simply slinging the camera over my back. I think my size was the 300 and I can cram my 1D IV with a 70-200 in it plus a flash and a couple other lenses.
I am really curious to hear other solutions. Could you post a link to the Pondella vid you are referring to.

Here's the link to the Pondella video.

For the most part I can't just use a small camera bag because I'm also carrying other necessary gear. I'm trying to find a solution to make my camera more accessible so I don't miss any shots because I can't get into my bag.
thanks PJ.

Hey buddy, check out the Shoot to Kill podcast with Shaun Reeder I was telling you about. He talks about a sweet system that he uses for climbing.

Disregard the part where they all mispronounce your state.

I actually listened to that one today, the spider holster.
It would be okay for some stuff but not skiing or climbing. It would destroy my gear to have it banging around while skiing or climbing. They totally butchered Nevada, even Reeder did.

I've been carrying an F-Stop Gear Loka and been very happy with it.

I've also carried a day back with gear in wraps which works pretty well too.

It worked really well.
I didn't shoot a whole lot, but wasn't at all bothered by the bag and it was quick access when I did shoot
