Can't remember if I've seen it before, Tom... memory is the second thing to go .
But I like the treatment here- and the image.
It's another reminder of how many things I know nothing about. Can't even imagine what these machines do.

Me too neither and I'm kinda half-a$$ed familiar with wood and woodworking. Like the image though and am striving to get my film shots to look like this.
Kenny - wish I could answer, but the mill was not operational when we were there; hence the reason they let us in - nice folks at Berry Lumber Works. next time we'll ask.

Great subject material and I like the treatment. I struggle a bit with the comp though. I think I want to see either a bit more or a bit less of it. More, to see what the shaft in the upper left is all about, or less to focus more on the machine with the prominent cylinder. Do you have an opportunity to shoot again?
I agree with Rob. The comp leaves me wanting more, but the treatment is interesting.
My best guess at what these machines do:
Bottom right is a conveyer that moves the boards along, and blades or cutters come out of the slots on the left to cut them to length, or cut slots in the boards. The tube on the upper left is probably part of a dust collection system.
I like this.
Yes its a bit busy and cluttered, but that's what it is.
I wouldnt want to lose any of the detail and strong edges, but the contrast feels a bit harsh. Maybe pull back some highlights?

John, you sound like an old lumberman! thanks for the info or good guesses . . . .

Not a lumberman, but a carpenter and cabinet maker.
I've worked in enough shops to be able to recognize machinery though.
