Canberra was the stop for rounds five and six of the BMX Australia Champbikx and Probikx tour. For those in dryer areas, the eight days before the race saw constant and heavy rain. I shot round five of the series, which was a thin window of dry (but dark) weather early on the Saturday morning.
Comments and critiques welcome, but please keep in mind that the watermark is hardwired in by our system and that the photos are loaded up uncropped so clients can play with the image as they wish. The backgrounds were atrocious, and my 500mm f4.5 didn't quite have the shallow depth of field needed to evaporate them. The goal was stock shots of riders, particular the three ladies and one lad aiming for a spot on the 2012 Aussie Olympic team.
I wish I knew something about this sport, but I don't. the series as a whole appears very nice to me and my appreciation might be greater if the images were presented a litter larger.
Thanks for sharing and thank for your reply on my lacrosse series.
The problem with shooting it was that going a bit wider on the second straight offered good opportunities for massive crashes -- there was one that looked a lot like they hit a landmine -- except that the backgrounds were really seriously atrocious. Great vibe from the participants and spectators, though. A very pleasant environment in which to be shooting.
