Excellent!!
The color makes me think you took a little trip to Mars.

What a cool shot! I think you missed the race car though....

Do you have anymore of that location? I would love to see them.

Great site by the way!

i must admit, fred, i never thought i'd see something new and stunning from the racetrack ever again!! and didn't really care.

but this amazing, ultra-wide perspective is a mindblower!! it is so wonderfully intimate and textural while simultaneously revealing the vast enormity of death valley. and the colors are just superb!! kudos on an amazing photograph!! dvb

Hey Fred,
I think it has been said in many post before me, but can echo, great image!!! There are many views that have been done but can repeat what Derek has said above.

Just a nitpick though. Why did you drag that rock making a unsightly line in the awesome playa, and then just leave it there blocking the view (just kidding)

Serious though, would you consider cloning out the small contrail in the sky?

Hi Fred,

I really like the expansive sense of place that this image conveys. Beautifully lit.

I'm usually not a fan of weird color skies, but I think it works very well in this image. Nice job!

It shows an approximate 10mm focal length with the 17TSE shifted for a pano. A small tilt was also used to keep things sharp.

Please explain this.

Fred,

Thank you for the technical explanation. I'm trying to take it all in. Great stuff here.

Given the really wide angle of view and popularity of the Racetrack, you must have had a hard time not getting other photographers in the shot. Or maybe you cloned them out?

By the exposure value and the low angle of the sun, I'd hazard a guess that it was shot around sunrise..... Probably too early for most folks!

My bad... Surprised there weren't hundred of other photographers around. Unless of course they were all behind Fred with his 10mm effective focal length

Yes, it was shot before sunset. Racetrack was empty that day. I saw another photographer but he was way behind me...I do plan to be there at sunrise next time though!

Jonathan,
As you may already know, the 17mm TS-E is a tilt and shift lens. For this shot, I shifted it to the right and took a picture. Then shifted to the left and took another one. In Photoshop, I combined both frames. Once a pano is created, one would get a different perspective simulating a 10mm focal length lens and 120 horizontal angle of view.
I hope this makes sense.
Allt the best,
Fred
