Given the really wide angle of view and popularity of the Racetrack, you must have had a hard time not getting other photographers in the shot. Or maybe you cloned them out?
I love the low angle, in your face look of this shot Fred. The depth you've captured here is fantastic. I have a feeling a 5DIII is in my future, and it'll be paired with either the 24mm TS-E or the 17mm TS-E.
Awesome shot and composition! It really showcases the capabilities of the 17TSE.
I am a bit confused if this is two stitched shots or one then pano cropped? If two are you creating one shifted left then combing with a second shifted right?

Good one Fred, I look to return to the Racetrack Playa with my 17 TSE. I only had a 24 TSE during my last visit. It seems as though you are low enough to use more than "a small tilt" but perhaps the height of the rock was a compromising tilt consideration.

Mike, thanks for commenting.
The 17TSE was made for DeathValley! The entire park is full of interesting subjects where you would love to get low and close. You would probably tilt all your shots!
I didn't think about stitching panoramas but a lot of photos I took this time were calling for that angle of view.
On this particular shot, the tilt was not very small but I don't recall the exact angle as the lighting was changing really fast. The only downside of the 17mm is that you need to watch for flare. I had to always watch for flare on the LCD and use my hands to block the sun when necessary.
Take care!
Fred
Agreed, flare on the 17 TSE is quite a problem. Stronger lights in a night scene will be problematic as will any direct sunlight on the front element. The flare is worse when stopping down more.

Wonderful shot……your 17mm TS-E shots are a real inspiration. I’m still learning how to use my new 17mm TS-E……Unless one has shot with one of these lenses it is hard to imagine how difficult a spectacular shot like this is to pull off……

An excellent image, Fred.
It's interesting that you decided to stretch it out side-to-side- instead of vertically (which would emphasize the skid mark). That makes it a bit different than the norm- and quite agreeable.
Nice work all 'round.
Charlie
Thanks for your comment Charlie. I wanted to try something different with this one. Take care, Fred

There was another photographer there but he was very far from me. By the time I took this shot, I was the only one at Racetrack. My daughter was with me as well. She found this rock!

Anything to get you back to digital Ben!!!
I love both lenses and the 90TSE. Killer landscape set. (My 24mm TSE does not leave the body though)
