Anyone who has a Ritz D4 pre order be sure to check your emails from them (they are spamming me daily to let me know the order is delayed), if you bought from a location that they previously did not collect sales tax on they will change your order to now do so without your permission or acknowledgement due to their impending buyout/transition to a new parent organization. I don't have an issue with them collecting it where it is due, I DO however think it is VERY slimy of them to automatically change my order without my permission and OK. I have gone ahead and cancelled my day 1 preorder from them and gotten at the end of the line at B&H. I was nervous about Ritz to begin with, this just confirms my suspicions about them.
"Dear xxx
Thank you for shopping at RitzCamera.com.
On February 21, 2012, our Company, Ritz Interactive, Inc., is being acquired by Ritz Camera & Image, LLC. As a result, we are required by law to collect and remit sales taxes on all customer orders shipped to your state on or after February 21, 2012. Although your order was placed with us prior to the above date, due to inventory availability it will not ship until on or after the above date. "

It looks like they are following the tax laws after a reorganization (Ritz has had financial issues for years) and they informed you of the change in advance of billing/shipment. It might be unfortunate, but not slimy.
As its been said in the Canon forum, the new 22 MP 5D Mk.III will be $3500 USD and the new 24-70L Mk.II is $2300 USD. Combined this is $1000 USD more than the D800 + 24-70 Nikkor. I think the D800 will sell well.
I'm with you, it's the law, they have to collect the tax and if I don't have it collected by a vendor I owe it as use tax instead of sales tax.
What they -shouldn't- do is assume that the buyers are going to automatically be ok with the change and give them an easy way to correct this. also, since they were spamming me with daily updates not assume that I was going to catch the one email from them saying something had changed. There needs to be something more to a $500 change on a $6k order than a 3 line email and it needs some kind of acknowledgement on my part.
Preordered the D4 when it was announced, and have seen no reason to regret it with the announcement of the D800. Upgrading from the D3 and the D4 should fit my needs nicely: high ISO, speed, robust, hoped for image quality, and file size (though I would have preferred 18-24MP), It also has the addition of video for me to try. Just disappointed by the delay, i had hope to have been using it by now.
Same. I was sooo excited about getting mine on the 16th Feb, and as it was my 30th b'day pressie to myself, which happened to be on the 8th I was all the more excited. Oh well, it will be very much worth the wait and I'm sure I'll be grinning like a Cheshire cat once I get my hands on it.
Looks like the pre-order to thread views ration has declined now. Still a healthy amount though and I have to say the percentage of pre-orders has surprised me. More than I was expecting.
I ordered my D4 online from the big NYC Superstore place when the original announcement was made. When I was visiting the store last weekend I was told they anticipate a further delay in getting their initial shipment from Nikon to late April.
April, that will be a severe pain in the ass. I was all set for Feb 16th and have only just come around to the idea of March 15th. April will be a major blow!!!

I understand your disappointment, but you will live ... call it your Lenten sacrifice!

I expect to purchase a D4 sometime later this year, though I am watching/waiting patiently to see if Nikon has anything else up their proverbial sleeve before I take the plunge. I am looking forward to reading more "hands-on" reviews of both of these cameras, but expect that the D4 fits my needs better (high ISO, fast autofocus, high fps as my priorities in a new body).
I am interested in the enhanced AF of the D4 but I don't think that it would be a good choice if you already have a D3s (the ISO is the same). I have thought about selling my D3s and getting a new D4 but it would not be a rational choice. At this point I am more inclined to buy a D800 and keep the D3s for a couple of years until Nikon releases a enhanced version of the D4. Regarding the D800, my dilemma is which model, the D800e or the standard one?

That's a nice dilemma to have though
