Just sharing a few images shot from wandering around the track in Pomona last Friday. Tough to get anything really interesting shooting from the stands, so lots of PS here to liven it up a bit... artistic license and all that stuff. I'd brought my 16-35, 70-200, and my 300 2.8 and 1.4tc. Used my 300 most of the day, though...
What..... not a single shot of an engine blowing up!
#3 is awesome. Like turning the hands of time back 30 years and remembering what it was like to hit the news stand for the latest copy of a racing rag.
5 and 10 r my favs. When you can see the sound wave it's cool. Someone needs to hook TD up with some credentials so he can blow our mind with a drag poster.

P.S. Yeah, you've just been one-upped Larry!
Now that definitely takes it to a new level, buddy. I'm a pretty traditional guy, so you'll have to officially ask for their hands.
Thanks to all you guys! I'm imagining how fun it would be for all of us to invade a race together and see the results... (the images, I mean- not the inebriation level).
Dave-- thanks very much... you must be my age.
Beau... thanks, my Southern friend. You must be talking about the cloud of hot nitro fumes-- brings you to tears. I shot from behind the start line for about 30 mins, and was amazed to find that if I held the press on my AF back button (on AI Servo), the blast of sound waves at the start of each run vibrated my AF to a blurry mess. I literally couldn't make out a thing through my viewfinder. Really weird. The camera just couldn't handle it, so I had to prefocus and hit the trigger.
Credentials would make for an unreal day, for sure. And hey, isn't a Christmas card enough?
If he still takes an incognito look at the Forum, a big shout out to Mark Rebilas for some guidance regarding spectator camera equipment. An all-around talented guy and gentleman...
Tom, If for no other reason, I had to reply just because of your avatar. I am, however, going to cover the Gator Nationals this year. It will be my second drag race and first time shooting.
Great pics! I myself had just started taking pics at the track when my buddies run their cars. It's not as easy as it looks right? I would like to see more of what you have done. This is a nice forum. I will post a couple of my pics for your critique.
Thank you Larry. Thin skinned and post-traumatized, you sound like an alright guy.
I'm trying to get my pics up (after joining Upload&Sell) and it says the files are too large (1-4MB) it will only accept 600kb (really?) Those pics that Tom posted are much larger....
I never have used a hosting site before, so I might need a little guidance there if that's the way I have to go.
Make your pics ~800 pixels on their longest dimension and you'll be fine. They'll end up much smaller than the 1-4 MB you're suggesting. Post too large and some of the boys will tear ya out a new one.
