Hey, I don't begrudge you the journey. Cheers to that.

I just think that posting 14 portraits of yourself as heroic photographer is a little much. Maybe go for a more modest dozen next time, in case someone finds you a touch narcissistic.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I am working on second post covering the topics of Camera hording, Why having less camera is sometimes good for your photography. And what it's like living on the darkside.

Untill than some recent images all taken with .. Canon

Caon 85 1.2 L 11 on Canon 5D2

200 1.8 EF L on Canon 5D2

Canon 400 2.8 EF L 11 (non IS)

Opinion deleted since we are not allowed to express an opinion that does not heap praise on the OP.

Gregory, with all due respect, garbage is garbage whether you photograph it with Nikon, Canon, Linhoff or Hasselblad. While I respect and empathise with your opinions, I'll never see beauty in rubbish. There is so much that is beautiful it is a crime to waste a frame on something that should be in a landfill somewhere unless you're making a statement to your city cleansing department.

I can see it now: a coffee table book called "Rubbish of the World". See one man's artistic impression of trash. From sunny Waikiki to freezing St. Petersburg. Don't forget, one man's trash is another man's treasure!

I dunno... if he cut his sleeves off he'd be Peter Lik!

Some great photos in there as well as some wise words. Looks like you have a nice kid too!

Cheers!

Looking at your kit made me kind of nostalgic for the best kit I have owned, from many systems:

The lovely viewfinder on my Pentax ME Super, those glowing LEDs zooming up and down!

The "feel" of the LX

The wonderful IQ and smooth focussing of my manual Zuikos

Yes, I too had the fab Nikkor 28mm f1.4, for its era a mind blowing lens. The beautiful build of the Nikkor 28mm f3.5 PC - still have one to this day.

The IQ and build of the Canon 135L f2 and 24mm f1.4L Mk2

No system has it all!

Strange, I was always taught growing up that if I had nothing nice to say, not to say anything at all. Why some people feel the need to post rude or trivial comments is beyond me.

Glad to hear you're enjoying shooting with your Canon gear Gregory, and your sentiment couldn't be more valid right now as everyone is "gearing out" on whether they should get new cameras or not: it's about the photographs, not the gear.

Changing systems causes artistic growth?

I don't think so. It just causes one to learn a new system.

I am never disappointed with your photography and it looks like you have had a great eye for it for a long time.

Your post can be seen as a bit of an ego bucket filler. All great artists have apparent flaws though. If this is your only one then you are fortunate.

Can you explain why you didn’t use the Nikon lens adapter route for the 5Dmk2? My understanding is that particular camera can control aperture with Nikon lenses (non aperture ring types) and you wouldn’t be worried about Manual Focus of course. EDIT: I see you did do this! But you sold your long lenses.

Were you typing your post on a phone or iPad or something? Heaps of typo’s.

I really like your comments on your scanned pics it shows you are really into the spirit of what the image is about. Taking the time to do that when getting them printed is really cool.

After having a quick browse on your Smugmug site I will definitely purchase a couple of prints.

Edit: After having a long browse - I now want to get a visual arts degree. I think the stuff you did on film when you were younger was quite good.

"typo's"

Is this veiled sarcasm, or are you serious?

I think you might be a pretty great photographer. I'm pretty sure you are in love with yourself.

However, after thinking about it, I can't fault you for that as you wouldn't be the first. Keep shooting, but maybe lay off the self portraits.
