Took a trip a few weeks ago to visit our daughter who is living and teaching school in Tuktoyaktuk, NorthWest Territories this year, 200 kms North of the Arctic circle. Tuk is a community of about 1000 souls, mostly Inuvialuit and a few non-natives thrown into the mix. Considering it was early February and that they had just come thru two weeks of frigid weather with temps in the -30 to -40 Celsius range, windchills of -55 to -60 and a 5 day blizzard with winds of 80-100 km/hr, the weather was actually pretty good. Temps warmed up to -30 to -20 Celsius, the winds died somewhat and my camera and lens didn't freeze! Tuk is perched on the Beaufort Sea well above the treeline so the terrain is flat and stark. Comments and criticism appreciated please.
Love the subtle lighting and feeling of a frigid, stark, barren landscape in the 1st and last. Striking images!
Not crazy about the object in the lrc in the 1st, and I wish the image was sharper, but I still love the mood in that one.
I want to like the 2nd, for the blowing snow obscuring the village and the light, but the human and dog feel a bit too black/contrasty to my eyes. Soften them up a touch and that's a keeper, too!
These make me reach for another layer.
I like the last one the most with the lovely light and clever reflection. 2 is special as well. I am with Barry on that one.

Babytooth: I am jeoulous - Tuk is on my to-do list. I like the last one best, then 2nd. The last one I would have been a bit lower and landscape mode to match the lines but it is good as is. Thanks for sharing. Scott

Appreciate the feedback Barry. I was not sure that my DSLR would not freeze in the -30 Celsius temps so the first three I posted were taken with a Nikon point and shoot which probably accounts for some for some of the softness. What is it about the sleigh in the lower right corner that bothers you? I thought it added perspective to the image. Agree with the darkness of the dog and man in 2. I will work on that. Thanks for commenting. I have posted 4 more taken with the "beast".

Thanks Ute. No layer adjustments done as yet but I agree with your assessment and Barry's regarding the need to adjust layers. Appreciate the comments.

Appreciate the comments Scott. I would have liked to have been lower in image 4 but when I tried to compose the image that way the reflection was absent. We drove the ice road into and out of Tuk - 170 kms of freeway over 4 to 5 feet of ice. The maintenance crews do an outstanding job of keeping the ice road in excellent shape.
