p.1 #1 · Brecon Beacons Sunrise II

Hi all,

Here are 3 more images from my Friday/Saturday trip wild camping on Pen Y Fan

http://www.alexnail.com/gallery-images/craig_cwm_sere.jpg
Craig Cwm Sere connects Pen y Fan and Cribyn (the central peak). Its a very popular route for walkers and from Pen Y fan the view of the ridge line is excellent.
The colours of these altocumulus just before sunrise were absolutely fantastic. I was jumping for joy when they started to glow and I knew I was in for something special. Around sunrise the light changes dramatically. With the sun below the horizon in this image the snow takes on the blue of the sky above. Colour contrast is something I constantly seek in my photography (I could never shoot Black and White!) and never is it better than under a sky like this.

This is an image of Corn Du from Pen Y Fan taken shortly after sunrise.

This trip to Pen Y Fan was the first outing for my crampons. For shots like this they are an essential peice of safety equipment! This snow had long since frozen and provided no grip at all. In the image you can also see the main path that leads from Corn Du to Pen y Fan. It was covered in ice and made for some pretty entertaining breakfast viewing when the hords headed up in walking boots, wellie boots and trainers. Pretty silly if you ask me!

The soft light of predawn is perfect for revealing texture and detail. These foreground grasses (not a hedgehog) were covered in the most intricate snow and ice structures, an ideal foreground subject. Beyond lies Corn Du.

Excellent stuff. I love the contrast between the cold snow and the warm glow in the sky.

Well captured a fine series. Like Carlo, I admire the contrast between the cold and warm light.

Love the first. When the sun lights the bottoms of the clouds is truly a special moment. I'm glad you were able to capture it.

Wonderful light in these. The 2nd is my fave. The light in the swale is ultra sweet!

I think you might be disappointed to a certain extent, its often overrun by walkers and in the summer the paths look like scars on the mountain
