Stated in a pre-shoot meeting by the client...we had just met.
Yep that'll cost him extra $$. I quote my day rate based on many things but enjoyment of the assignment is a factor...warm beaches w/ beautiful subjects might be a more favorable rate than shooting widgets in the cold.
Not that JUST being something is necessarily a bad thing, but never assume, never underestimate your opponent.
And while we can discuss how business should be warm and fuzzy...team...work together...yada yada....it still comes down to getting the most money for your work and them getting the most value (real/perceived) for theirs...that is fair enough.
But I have to laugh when someone is so quick to dismiss...
Just a bit of a rant...thanks for listening. Now I'll get some mmmore ccooffeeee.
This is just a response. I can relate, as can many members here. Sometimes, unfortunately, clients don't get it. Thankfully, you seem to have taken it well, and your spirit hasn't seemed to crack from the blatant disregard by your client.
What he meant to say was ... "You're just a button pusher." ... but didn't have the guts (family friendly version) to do so.
Sad that so few people really know what it means to be a GOOD photographer. The masses have bought into the OEM marketing @ the camera does it all these days, and you just PS it the way you want it anyway ... negating the need for a diverse intelligence.
Let's see ...
Physicist
Artist
Psychologist
Technician
Inventor
Computer Geek
Marketing Guru
Businessman
Engineer
Coach / Motivator
Explorer
Innovator
... and I'm sure we can all add to the list extensively.
Reminds me of a time when an architect suggested in a construction meeting that the plumber was "only a plumber" ... to which the plumber replied, "Do you REALLY want me to build it, like you drew it?" The architect deferred as we were rolling on the floor.

Yeah, you're a button pusher.
I bet you're the sort that would do a playboy shoot for free because you'd get to stare at tits all day. Not professional enough to worry about where the shadow of that nipple would fall.
I'm the sort that loves to shoot. That loves to get paid to shoot. I will shoot whatever you want shot for the right price. But I have a range and I don't mind using my range to cherry pick some jobs over others. But there will always be the enema bags to shoot because it pays the bills. No really...upcoming project but they pay.
Nikon has been a constant bombardment against professional photographers so they can sell fancy cameras to consumers. Remember that Ashton series of commercials, like the one where he's at the wedding and he's amazed how easy it is to take pictures with the Nikon point and shoot, even stepping in front of a bitter looking wedding photographer to steel a shot.
