p.1 #1 · A Pirate's Post

Sometimes you get back, look at the shot on the computer and wish, just wish you had paid more attention. A little more on the bottom, a little less zoom, a piece of grass or branch here or there, a touch better light or angle and the shot would be "perfect".
So look up to the heavens and say Aaargh
Eric

1 Night time leopard..a bit of red eye and a little bit of grass by the mouth
http://eyelaser.smugmug.com/Nature/Botswana2007/i-7C4t2zL/0/X2/Africa-2007-9-X2.jpg

2 Ele tusks and trunk...if only the background was more uniform and not so distracting
http://eyelaser.smugmug.com/Nature/Botswana2007/i-Xr6cRRg/0/X2/Africa-2007-12-X2.jpg

3 Beautiful Kudu bull but he looks "fenced" in...if he was just in front of the fallen tree (this one doesn't bother me as much...almost adds a frame)

4 Lilac Breasted Roller...the crispest shot I have ever gotten of one of these beauties...but the Aargh! is obvious

5 Sometimes however, the accessories add some dimension and you just get lucky

Wonderful shots Eric in spite of what you view as distractions.

Eric, sometimes you just have to be glad you got to see it. You can't always get a great shot of it. I call these my Damn shots. Bruce

I have lots of memory filled with similar shots. It makes us appreciate the ones that work all the more. Like your last one. Don

I find that they are not distractions. They add a touch of reality, which I like very much.

You know, Eric, most people would give about anything to have taken any of those photos. As for me, I really like them the way they are. Sometimes perfect in Mother Nature is to have a wee bit of grass by the cat's mouth or to have an eye catching branch across the front of one mind boggling kudo. It makes sense for him to be there. Love those shots, sir.

Excellent series!!! Personally, I prefer "habitat" shots of wildlife to the perfectly bokehed portraits. (although the portraits are indeed beautiful).

Wild life & nature are what they are together & these are great photos of that very thing. Thks for the post!!

These are wonderful, Eric.
Luckily for me, I'm not a perfectionist, or I'd have put my camera down a long time ago.
And shucks, I was on a two-week safari in Kenya and didn't even SEE a leopard, so I really appreciate seeing these.

Eric, you are right, those shots are not up to your usual high standard. However, sure like hell I wish they were mine.

These are incredible shots, and I think most people that view them will be stunned by their beauty and not even notice these little nit-picky issues. BTW, I think they all look pretty perfect anyways. The roller is gorgeous- and I can't seem to see anything wrong with this shot.
