A few friends and I did a short trip down to Death Valley and VOF ( Including Tim Oneill and Alan Lichty ). The dunes hadn't seen much wind over the last few days and the tracks and interest were high. It was difficult finding comps. that weren't trampled thru. Here is a take away from near sunset.
Taken with the 7D, 100 - 400, ISO 200, F11, 1/80., C&C appreciated. Rick
This must have been right before you and Ted started back to the van given the light in this scene. Your trek up the big dune looks like it was worth it - I didn't see anything like this down below where Tim and I hung out.
I like the comp and the effect of the telephoto compression for this scene - that worked out well here.
Very nice great patterns and lines here really bummed I could not make this trip with you guys I know Tim sure had a great time, looking forward to more post of the trip
I like the abstract composition. The lines are well seen. I don't think color is helping the photo and maybe hurting it. I think a b&w edit would play off the lines more and be more fitting. The 60kb jpeg is too low of quality imo. Too noticeable.
Don - Thanks, you're obviously right on the crop / rotation. I guess it never goes well posting when it's late and you're tired.
Tim - Sorry you weren't up to the last climb. Had a nice trip though, Thanks for all the navigating, wisdom, and company. You presence really made this trip that much nicer. Rick
Alan - Thanks. It was nice having you along, you're such an electronic wizard. Enjoyed the company and the fresh perspectives. Rick
Ray - We missed you, your ears must have been burning while we were out, as you were in a number of our conversations. Thanks for the post.
Zaltz - Tried something different in posting this, and between the crop and importing it came out as a lot smaller image. I think more cropping than work flow though. Thanks for the comment, I post a B&W when I can.
Thank you everyone for the comments and the time. Rick
I think you've got a great shot here, but as Zach stated, the color might work better either a bit brighter or as a gray scale image. I'm sure there foot prints everywhere limiting your options, especially slogging up a dune only to find the path that someone else took. Sounds like you guys had a great time, did you camp?
Rick- whether the unusual color is a good thing or not is arguable. For me, I've been to those dunes many times and never see colors like those- so I like it. And the perspective and effects of the long lens add even more appeal to me.
Nicely done- and unique (which isn't so easy there ).
Charlie
Good eye for the lines and curves. I think I like the color version better, although this looks like an image that you could play with more to find different interpretations.
Ed - thanks for the comment and the analogy. Glad you like it.
David - Thanks
John - We got to out, it's been to long
Dave - Thanks for comments, glad you like it.
Ute - Thanks, when are you guys heading back this way again?
Barry - Thanks, keep those cypress shots coming they are sweet
Mike - Thank you, we need to get out.
Thank you everyone for the comments, sorry I'm slow on getting back to these, life has been full lately. Rick
