p.1 #1 · Does anyone make a good compact Macro 1:1 lens?

With a working distance of at least 60mm and at least F4.

Does anyone make a small one I can use on my NEX?

I can't think of any that are 1:1! That is a hard requirement.

The NEX Macro has far far too much CA.

The Canon compact macro 50 f/2.5 goes to 1:1 with the adapter. I don't know about the working distance.

edit: it's probably just as economical to find an older lens to adapt.

Why not an old Vivitar (sold under many other brands) 100/2.8 1:1?

I want smalllll.

I could just get a Tamron 90mm F2.8 in Alpha mount but I want something very compact.

Have there been rangefinder macros?

Doubt you will find a 1:1 that does not use extension tubes with those demands. If you are OK with using tubes, check out the older micro-Nikkors.

As for rangefinder macros, think about it.

Parallax.

The most compact option probably is a 1:2 macro lens + good achromat (diopter). I'm not sure if you'll get the 60mm working distance requirement with an achromat though. If you'd consider this route, there are options such as the Olympus 50/2 macro, Leica 60/2.8 macro, Nikkor 55/2.8 or 3.5.
The Contax 60/2.8 Makro-Planar does 1:1, but it's not compact (or light) because of the long focusing helicoid.

Best one I have used that is light, compact AND amazing is the Pentax Super Multi Coated Takumar 100 F4 Macro. I have it with a James Lao custom chipped M42 adapter. PM if you might be interested. As you know, I'm changing systems.

Looks like it's only 1:2 native. Weighs about 12 oz.

It only goes to 1:2, but the Compact Contax 60/2.8 C Makro-Planar at 270g is so much smaller and lighter than the Leica 60 2.8 or the 1:1 Contax 60/2.8 Makro-Planar,

couldn't figure out how to get the link to be active

50/3.5 Rokkor and several Oly macros, also not 1:1 though

The Nikkor 55/2.8 and 60/2.8 (AF-S though) are great.

Very tough set of requirements. 1:1 usually means a long helical (not small) or internal focus (too close). If small is more important than continuous focus from infinity to 1:1 consider a 1:2 macro lens with an extension tube. My preference would be one of the manual focus 55mm Micro-NIKKORS, either f/2.8 or f/3.5, with an M2 (or PK-3 or PK-13) extension tube, or the Leica 60mm f/2.8 Macro (a little bulkier) with its dedicated 1:1 extension tube.

You may want to look at the 50/4 preset Takumar, see thread here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/834550/0

The Sigma 50 MM macro does 1;1 and its outstanding. I used one in EOS mt. I have owned their 50,70,150 and 180 macros, all are outstanding. A pre-set macro lens- seems like a trip back into yesterday, so to speak- the dark ages.

The Mamiya macro Sekor 60/2.8 [1:1] M42 is the smallest 1:1 Alt that I've used. The EF 50/2.5 CM [1:1] is smaller, but as plasticmotif says, it's probably easier to convert an Alt, as the EF doesn't have an aperture ring. The Carl Zeiss Macro-Planar T* 60/2.8 C is small, but only goes to 1:2 on its own. The similar Carl Zeiss Macro-Planar T* 60/2.8 S goes to 1:1, but is a little bigger and twice the weight. If you can find a small bellows kit, then you can use some very small macro/enlarger lenses, but they typically have very short working distances.

Well the lens matches the OP's requirements, and you don't have to use the pre-set ring if you don't want to. Or are you referring specifically stop down metering in macro lenses? What would the differene be?
On top, since the lens will be used on a Nex, it'll be live view all the way...

If you dont use the pre-set ring- how would you focus a lens say at F32 ? Any pre set ive ever used you set the shooting aperture F32 then focus at the widest aperture and when ready to shoot, you use the pre set ring to close down to F32. If you shoot with the lens wide open of course the pre set ring means nothing.

I actually just received a Tamron SP 90/2.8. It's reasonably compact, light and does 1:1, and being adaptall2 it's....well adaptable

Minolta 50/2.8 macro is great, but no aperture ring. The older Signma 50/2.8 macros are also excellent and have a aperture ring in most mounts.

The Vivitar/Promaster/... 90/3.5 are very good when stopped down a little and go to 1:1 with the matched adapter. They are also very lightweight.

The aperture ring is on the adapter - which is about $15.
