Waiting almost a day monitoring their activities and the mating sequences to happen, they were tenderly building nest. After a long absence finally the birds returned with their catches; ate their meals and followed by the mating in late afternoon sun lighting. Hope their chicks would survive this year. From So Cal.

Thanks randy. Other photographers who were there might also have agreed as we noticed. These birds are doing things they are called to do, very natural when it's time in a season... Mating was just a part of their natural process like hunting, nest building, feed the chicks etc...as we watched, the female was ready for a long time, standing and waited...the male was much slower in getting ready and came into action. It was an educational observation for us. Perhaps a biologist may share to shed some more light.
Cheers.

I saw a squirrel do this to a RS Hawk the other evening while the hawk was snacking on a mockingbird. Seriously - but with different intent. No, I didn't have my camera
