Already but a ClearTouch Crystal screen protector on it. May go GGS, not sure yet if I want to do that.

This is ironically mounted with the Contax G 28mm F2.8 lens which I probably will not be able to use with this camera anyway because of the corner issues. Will find out for sure Saturday.

Haha well my 5N will most likely be going up and probably the G 28mm F2.8 as well... got to pay for the ZA 35mm F1.8 somehow..

I got a black with 2 red pinstripes strap that came with a small RF that will end up on the 7.

I also got a dark blue navy blue. I'm really happy that Nex-7 came with much better traditional lugs than the 5N though. That really limited your strap options on the 5N.

Hi. I don't suppose we could see a pic of what the 7 looks like hanging from the neck? Does the camera LCD lay flat against the body, or does the weight of the lense tilt it forward?

Lays flat with the G 28mm. I think the lens would have to be pretty long/heavy for it to make it tilt forward.

That's a sexy, "fast" (as in Ferrari -like) looking camera with that red strap. Looking forward to reading your experiences with it - and seeing lots of samples.

Thanks, I'll definitely be doing a test against the 5N and A850 using the 24-70 and the 85mm ZA lenses.

Another big bonus, you can hold the flash up to bounce very easily.

That would be great! So many 7s around and nobody did a good test
against the 5N. Please use any of your good lenses you use on 5N
and do a landscape test to show the detail. ISO 100, f8 just a boring test
to show if 7 really gives you more detail. Thanks!

Cool, thanks. I'll be curious how that affects the eye sensor. I initially thought the 5 pointing down on the strap was odd, but it may make some sense. I'll be interested to read your opinions once you've had it a while.

I've received mine, and have done just a few tests to get to know it. It's gloomy and gray here, and I haven't really had a chance to shoot anything meaningful.

Love the handling, love the viewfinder, love the ability to toggle the magnification on/off with a press of my right thumb while holding the camera to my eye. Love the integrated flash, which bounces really well, and triggers an optical slave nicely (once I get an adapter, I'll put a radio trigger on the hot shoe).

I'm relieved to see that the 16/2.8 and kit zoom both get along with it pretty well, and are largely consistent with results on the 5n. I know the 16/2.8 isn't exactly well loved, but I like it, and find it very useful. I don't see any sharpness problems beyond those on the 5n, and if there's any color shift, it's very slight. For fast and light wide angle, it still works (yes, you'll still want to lose the far corners, but with 24mp, there's cropping room to spare).

The increased detail of this sensor up to ISO 400 seems pretty clear to me. From there, it probably levels out with the 5n in terms of usable resolution. Practically speaking, the ergonomic improvements (especially the ability to properly brace it against my face) will make it at least as good in low light, and probably superior.

A couple of throwaway shots below with a 50/1.4 FDn, probably between f/2.8 and f/4, followed by 100% crops, with minimal processing. With good lenses, this thing should deliver.

So just shot it a bit with the Contax G 28mm...

Unless corner fix can be automated in Lightroom, I guess I'll be selling that lens with my 5N. Sadly it works perfectly on that camera but not N7.

These are completely unedited, uncropped, no processing, straight out of LR3 RAW.

Disappointed with the colour shifts in the corners from the Contax G 28/2.8 on NEX-7, but thanks for sharing the samples, useful to know.

Personally, that strap is far to "vibrant" for me. I would stand out to much.

thanks for the quick test! how is the corner sharpness on the g 28? i can handle the purple and a little bit of smearing, but a lot of smearing is a nogo for me.

i also don't like my straps anything but black, but then i also prefer no strap at all.

Unfortunately, it seems to even at infinity, the corners seem smeared.

Is there a established reason why the 7 imposes more color shift and corner smearing than the 5N? The increased smearing is obvious given the higher pixeldensity when viewed in 100% - but increased given the same size of output is not. And for increased color shift there must be something else, right?

On the 5N I fail to observe either with the G28, while it is not hard to find on the G21.

It's the micro lenses.

Since I picked up the NEX-7, I'm sure there will be a NEX-7N next month with improved micro lenses for rangefinder retro focal design lens use.

Possibly lack of microlenses or a stronger AA filter than whats in the 5N. Someone needs to dive right into the deep end and get that AA filter pulled out of the 7N and throw a 28/2.8 Biogon on it.
