p.1 #1 · Boudoir on your main website

Recently I got lucky and did my friend and her friend's boudoir. They wanted an album to give to their boyfriends. I loved every moment of it because I learned a lot, get to see beautiful women, and get paid!
http://blog.usagani.com/2012/02/miss-b-on-location-boudoir-photography.html
http://blog.usagani.com/2012/01/miss-s-on-location-boudoir-photography.html

I have never done boudoir session before. I got a lot of positive responses from my friends and family. But I did get some private messages from a few people. I come from a pretty conservative family from south east Asia. One of the private messages was from my dad who thinks I was being unfaithful or thinks my marriage is about to break apart .

So my question is.. is it bad to put boudoir material on you site when your main goal is wedding? Do i need to create a different domain or subdomain that separate the two? Will it hurt me because it will offend some potential clients? Thoughts?

Good stuff.

It all comes down to how you want to position your brand and the scope of what you do.

Ghonis can pull it off while most other's can't / don't.

What is the Usagani brand in 140 characters? Are the words seductive and sassy (or anything along those lines) in that summation?

Hey, you're a photographer - when I was younger, I used to have to take photos of autopsies and other nasty photos of deceased people. People thought I was nuts for doing so. But that was my job.

IMHO, if you are cool with it, and your wife is cool with it - go for it.

Ok, I know I'm going to totally wreck the fictitious rep I have somehow built on here... but aside from oogling the chicks I actually READ THE TEXT on your blog posts.

TAKE THAT SHIT DOWN, NOW.

"Miss S is my first boudoir client. I was very nervous because I have never done one before but I am pretty happy with the result. I hope to do another one in the near future. Thank you Miss S. for giving me permission to share some of these photos."

Aside from the fact that it's really confusing to have two clients who are both your first client... why the heck would you want to put that out there... and say you were nervous.... and describing yourself as pretty happy... and sounding puppyish about "I hope I do another one in the near future" ....

The sets are solid... not in love with EVERY shot but the sets are solid. Change the text pronto... no need to put out there that hey this is mY FIRST session doing this....

compliment the chicks, highlight how relaxed the session was with the chick's friend there to cheer her on... thank her for letting you post the images. done.

Ciao!

Hey,

Photos look really good esp. for a first time- how could you concantrate

Posting them in boudoir category on your www would do no harm- I see it as a wedding related in some way...

And there's boudoir workshop today on creativelive if anyone's interested.

Wojtek.

Robin,

I don't have a problem with this area of wedding related photography, but here in the UK having it on your main wedding focussed website is (in my opinion,) can only done successfully by female photographers (or husband and wife teams at a push.)

When it's done by a male photographer, no matter how high profile that photographer is, it always comes across as sleazy to me. Just my opinion and I'm sure many other UK togs will disagree, but it's based on feedback from my own couples (bride's and groom's,) and these are the people that matter to us and our business.
Cheers,

Nic

hey man. I'm going to have to get behind Ale on this one. I think your boudoir set is ok, but stylistically it's nothing
interesting enough to justify possibly alienating some of your clients that might be a touch more conservative. In my
opinion, I wouldn't have blogged these, or at least not the whole set. I probably would have just put up one shot that
isn't super revealing. And there's truth to what was said about women being able to get away with blog content that
men cant.

I pretty much agree with you guys 100%. I took down the text. I am really horrible with blogging. I am just not a good writer. I am going do delete some pictures from the blog also.

I pretty much asked the 2 girls to give me lists of photos that I can use for my blog. I was pretty surprised the list was pretty long. They pretty much let me use everything that doesnt show certain areas .

Robin,

I think it depends on your market.

I don't separate it. But I live in the Metropolitan NY area. If someone had a problem with it, they would not be the client for me.

If you live in a conservative area and your clients are conservative then having boudoir as part of your main site might be a mistake.

Put on your main site as long as the pics are fresh & fun .. the boudoir market is more strongly related to weddings than many realize (or are willing to acknowledge), and can be a great source of referrals. It all depends on the quality of the boudoir pics .. if they compliment your wedding brand then use them.

FYI... after reading your post(s) I wanted to check out your site to see what kind of words you have in the boudoir section ... yeah, that's right, that's precisely what I was after! ... anyway... went to your site... main navigation menu has a link to {BOLD}Boudoir ... that takes to a password protected page.

That doesn't make sense to me... I wouldn't really want to have a main menu link to a post that's blocked... it would seem like that would be a perfect place to have what you have in the boudoir blog category... with the valentine special, album pics etc.

Oh yeah... I didn't find nearly as many words as I was hoping to... just saying'

Start a separate boudoir site. (link to it) You'll probably double your income.

Put this on a landscape forum and they'll complain about the tilted "horizon."
