p.1 #1 · I applaud to Nikon for all the "hate" in Canon forum
Seriously, it feels like most posts here were paid by Nikon to bash on Canon and its cameras.
Half don't even shoot Canon and most only shoot neighborhood cats and portraits of their kids which they print at 4x6", yet demand 50MP and bash the "shitty 21mp" camera Canon was stupid enough to make.
The funny thing about all that "I'll switch if they won't do what I ask.." is that it's all air. It rarely happens. People need to vent. If someone is dumb enough to sell all the gear just because the camera is missing 8mp, it would be a sad sad day.
And if for a second you'd think that a d800 will make you a better photographer than a "shitty cameras" such as 7D or 5DII then you need to have your head checked.
And what's with "I am a landscape photographer so I need 36mp+++"?? There are not many landscape photographers out there who actually print BIG prints and sell their work. Just because you shoot landscapes, doesn't mean you need a high mp camera.
Just because you do studio work, does not mean you need 36mp either. When was the last time you did a 40" portrait print of that model you shot??
I just had to say it!!! Hopefully at least SOME will agree

Was 'mass trolling' documented in the Mayan calender? I feel like what is occurring on the Canon boards atm is the first 'plague' that initiates the end of the world--December 21st here we come.

Skumar -- I respectfully disagree. The forum is focused on gear, gear use, and the craving for more, newer gear. Nothing new there.
What is different these days is the huge pent-up demand and expectations in both the Canon and Nikon camps for better and bigger quality and functionality.
I don't see anything wrong with that, other than the manufacturers have been very slow to satisfy their loyal followers.
Anyone satisfied with older equipment should be very happy -- soon there will be even more of it on the market at even lower prices!

I follow FM for about 1 year or so (still fresh) and this has been a great community gear forum but i notice a much more aggressive and rude tone posts since the D800 appearance... it sure got peoples nerves pumpin !
Dmitri i say kudos to you, i am 100% behind you. Plus loved your work from ethiopia!

I think Cabin Fever is part of it. Ever see the movie Psycho?

I can guarantee that Nikon didn't pay me anything. I've been a Canon user since about 2005 or so, and I invested in their stuff a lot over the years. The more I invested and the better I got, the more I needed certain features to be very reliable and consistent. The more I felt that way, the more I realized that my cameras had a critical flaw of inconsistent autofocus. The more I noticed that critical flaw, the more I have become frustrated about having to work around it. Eventually, come PMA/CES, I tried Nikon cameras out of curiosity. I found that they didn't have the inconsistent autofocus issues I have become so used to experiencing. They all focused accurately with fast primes like I normally use, and they tracked well, and they focused consistently accurately. This is the premise by which I want to switch to Nikon. Plus, their noise looks 1000x better than Canon noise - it looks much more organic, more aesthetically tolerable, and handles pushing and pulling better by not showing a trait of artificiality that happens with Canon.
Lol, I didn't see it! The message there is pretty much the same thing.

I would say Dmitri is not "walking the talk" because he has a cat photo in his portfolio too.
I got $300 for that photo. Cats that pay are good cats!

Sure, but why bash the other company and make the posts so negative. That's my issue!
If you want to switch- SWITCH. It's that easy!
If Nikon was so perfect, we all would be shooting it. I,however NEVER considered switching. Not because I am loyal(to who??! I can't even get into CPS because "professional photographers" must have at least 3 L lenses. They promise to to fix your gear in 7-10 days and nothing gets done for 4 weeks!! You send them an email and they ignore it. I had 17-55 with a manufacturers defect and they refused to fix it. Certainly they don't really deserve my loyalty at all). I shoot with Canon because they have what I need.
I have no obsession with gear at all. I own just 2 lenses. I buy what I need in order to make money from my work without thinking about hypothetical scenarios where I'd need 40MP or 20fps. When I'll need that, I'll buy that camera.
Yes, 5DII is NOT perfect, but it's not a bad camera as a lot of people are saying here. If it was bad, it wouldn't be the most popular camera ever!
Make the AF what we've been asking for many years and give us a decent ISO and they are golden!
And we all want something and those are all different things! I want that damn cup holder and a MP3 player!!! And if can double as an espresso machine, I'll pay more!!

Despite the fact that you completely missed the point and unnecessarily bash people whose gear requirements differ from yours, I think you deserve a free pass to rant every once in a while because your photos are AWESOME. Just make sure you post new photos periodically to refill your free rant pass and we're good.

Switching ISN'T easy for all of us. I literally couldn't afford to switch to Nikon right now because I would lose too much versatility and be stuck with a very limited lens selection.

I would agree on cats and I would add "shooting cats with 800mm lens..." Seriously, landscapes and mpx is also true. Most of mine large prints on my walls I made with 8 to 16mpx cameras and they are great and up to 24 inch wide.
99.9% of mine shots are on web stored with reduced resolution and size about 800x600. Processing such huge RAW's is ridiculous on 4 years old (upgraded to the max) desktop I own, it is near dead even on 21mpx. My storage space is about 80% full. So, getting this camera will add another $2K for all these to be up to date with 36mpx. And after this I will save my shots to the web 800x600 again?

Personally, I totally enjoy the ruckus. So much new gear to drool over! I'd rather drool over even more Nikons than over the new Oly or a not-yet-announced Canon which I might actually have to *buy*. Much better for the wallet!

Oh my god, another tread! Where the hell should I take the time to follow all those threads, that need my ambition, correcting and wise ideas?
Hm. I do not care! I just take the time.
This behaviour we see is not alone on fredmiranda.com, Dmitri.
Many people cry about Canon gear in any forum.
I saw it first time tree years ago. While in the Canon forums people cried about 5D IIs AF issues, changing the side (many of them still just cry the same) the people in the Nikon forum did not understand, why. We got a camera they where dreaming about (like 3 years earlier 5D) and Canonians where moaning. Instead of us they just got a D700 to hold on a level with 3 year old 5D.
I think it is money! It was Canon, that opened great gear at low money to a crowed of people. Sometimes I feel the beg in a post: "I WANT that better gear for the less money, what I can spend." Fact to me is, that most moaners do not really shoot. They dream about. But they do not like their pictures and they think better gear would make them more professional. We all know, that this is not reality. Better pictures are done by better photographers. And those shoot with any gear.
The anger people feel about others or companies is in most cases just the anger and frustration about their lifes.
Canon does not produce expensive and horiible gear that does not fit anybodys needs.
Canon shares 50% of the market, because they are as good as Nikon (the other 50%)
This loud cry "I am unhappy and change sides!" in a forum is imo not much different from the cry: "I am unhappy! Does somebody hear me and feel the same? Somebody must be responsible! Ah, Yes, itīs Canon! I spend so many money and they sold me a 5D II with shitty outer points. Yes, I knew that before, but there where so many people doing great pics! And I did not know really, that the AF is SO shitty! Canon had stolen my money!"
Reality is different:
Canon (like Nikon) provides us with so much great gear, that it is difficult to decide, if we do not come back down to the bottom and ask ourselves, what we really NEED.
They do what they can and what they believe we like or need.
My needs, to cover 90% of my jobs:
24-105 4.0 L IS
70-200 4.0 L IS
50mm 1.4
5D MK II
What I have too:
100mm 2.8 L Macro IS (most privat use)
Speedlight 430 II (used 2 times a year when I have to shoot in over ISO 6.400 situations)
What I would like to have:
- 18 MP with usable nativ ISO 25k with IQ of 5D2s ISO 6.800
- a second (same) body (yes, I do not own an update body)
- The 70-300 L IS instead of 70-200 L IS
So long this does not exist/or I can not pay for it. My upper gear is great and doe an excellent job. If there is no 5D MK II at ISO 25K I guess, I will just purchase a second 5D MK II as backup.
