p.1 #1 · Arca Swiss B1 Ballhead

Hi guys, I just purchased a B1 used. Does Kirk Universal plate fits the B1, or do I need to buy Arca Swiss dedicated plates? Thanks.

Assuming your B1 has an Arca-Swiss type clamp on it then you will need an Arca-Swiss type plate for it.

But is the Kirk universal not an A-S type plate?

AFAIK, only RRS clamps are picky on plates. The original B1 clamps should be okay with any plates.

i dislike urban legends
the facts:
only the RRS lever lock clamps require a correctly sized plate assy that being a simple 38mm width at the base. this is the original dimension that arca swiss made theirs with. about 98% of plates today are made correctly and will work with the RRS lever lock. of course the only advise their own and wimberley because the work at the same level of precision. every single RRS plate i have owned and currently own has/is pretty dead on of the above mentioned dimension.

now if you have a screw type clamp (and RRS makes them too) unless your dimensions are way way off and i think you'll visually see the differences just about every plate made will fit a screw clamp. that will include RRS, Kirk, Wimberley and many others.

the screw type clamp has a much larger tolerance for dimensional differences. so if you have a plate with the precision to fit a RRS lever lock it will fit every major screw type or adjustable lever AS type design out there.

if you want the best designed, precise and executed plates you go RRS.
