I have a source, I absolutely rely/trust upon. It told me, there will be an announcement of an unbelieveable new DSLR body at a phantastic price end of this month 28th.
We will all be happy for beeing with Canon. :-)
Let´s see.
Yep it's a Rebel 4X with 24-70L IS II (designed just for you ).

I did get an e-mail from Canon on 2/7 announcing new PowerShot cameras, no DSLR's though.
Me too. And I think that's the source of the confusion about a February 7 announcement. We knew a camera would be announced on that date and some thought it might be a dslr when in fact it was a point-and-shoot.

Maybe Canon is having a 2nd thought about releasing the 5D3 and went back to the drawing board, because they knew it's going to get pawned by the D800. Wait 3 more years buddy.

+1: This is what I am believing, too. Last minute changes to make it as much competitive to the D800 as possible in a short period of time. If Canon planned to cripple again the AF, they need to rethink this. It is an image issue now for Canon - I am also convinced that it was no accident that the CEO was let go at the same time after Nikon announced the D800. Even DSLRs are not the biggest money-bringer in Canon's business, it would be a severe image loss for the company to fail so badly if they can't come up with something equivalent - and fast!

and Tsunamis happened because God wanted to punish humans that have been violating His laws, I guess.

Do you think they stopped short of the announcement to go and redesign the 5D3 when they saw the D800
Many of the Nikon 800 samples are from July 2011. They **had** to know what was coming from Nikon.
The 5D2 was revolutionary in many ways 3 years ago (the video, etc.) So was the 1DsII in 2004, the 20D.
Canon has had a history of suprising and surpassing what people thought was possible. Let's hope they do again, although in this case I think Nikon has done that instead.

I think Canonland is running out of good arguments. Does it hurt so much? C'on, it is the best situation right now for us consumers (if you are a consumer...). Competition is great - I am sure Canon will now wake up and give us the best they have. It is their only choice now.

I could care less who's gonna win, I have both Canon and Nikon gear .

Well, take the for what it's worth. Canon Rumors Guy (traveling in Ecuador) has given a CR3 (meaning a certainty) that an announcement of a 5D 3 (or X) is coming either on or about the 28th of February or possibly a week later.
