"Canon bring forward the presentation of it’s new 5D mark X to counteract the announcement of the Nikon D800. In the Canon offices are aware of the risk involved of delaying the waiting of his followers. This could mean that many of them will stare at the new product from Nikon, and more than one, because they can not stand the wait, had just acquired the new D800.
We hope that Canon confirm this news in a few days."
YES! That is what I would call a reliable source ...
Well, perhaps if the 5D3 has disappointing specs then canon can compete on price. If it's not that much of an upgrade, but is just over 2k... Might be interesting. Perhaps they are mulling over how cheap they should make it

Canon is going to go, hey, the 1DX, it's 3K. How do you like me now.
If that was the case, that would be effing amazing!
I wonder is the EOS-C camera (not the one officially announced last november - but the teaser body that looks like a 1 series but with a C designation) is going to be the next body?

There is a precedent. Think Sigma SD1: $6900 at introduction. Now renamed and reduced to $2300 Can the $6800 1DX be far behind? The fight over this is probably what was behind the recent Canon CEO resignation.

Do you think they stopped short of the announcement to go and redesign the 5D3 when they saw the D800
The Canon engineers decided to release the full frame CANON EOS ELAN-1R series with IIS ( Interchangeable Image Sensor.
You may now buy Canon CMOS Image sensors ranging from 12MP, 16MP, 18MP\18MPa (astro), 22MP, 28MP, 34MPs (studio), 34MPw (landscape), 34MPi (infrared), 34MPj (journalist) and lastly 62MPp (portrait)---> no current available lens is compatible with this, Canon will be releasing a new one.
Much like we are going back to FILM era again., but this time you're changing sensors

Cool. Sensor cartridges that will self-destruct after 24 or 36 exposures. Sensors come optimized for ISO 100, 200, 400, 800 ... etc. only. What a scheme!

I forgot to mention the Canon Elan- 1R series has a variable image sensor plane, Canon decided to implement this to eliminate front & back focusing lenses., what it does is if your lens is back focusing the sensor will compensate to where the lens' point of focus.
So even if your lens is messed up you can just do a simple automatic calibration.
