Crossing over Steens, I came upon a lone ranch house.
Near the house, these two members of the family were "doing their things."
# 1- The ritual "you smell me, and I'll smell you."
# 2- Then back to other investigations.
I don't know the circumstances, but obviously the young deer had joined the family. I can imagine their first meeting. An adult speaking to the dog, saying: "I expect you to treat Bambi here with all due respect." Being a Labrador retriever, the dog no doubt replied, "Sure- no problem," and then walked over to the deer and licked it.
Well, maybe I'm being a tad anthropomorphic- but only because dogs don't actually speak human .
Thanks for commenting, Ed.
Yes, indeed they were pals.
Seeing cats and dogs getting along is fairly common in people's homes, but seeing other species at ease in each other's presence is a bit less common. It always helps if one is a big and friendly dog.

Thank you Ron, Ken and Tim.
A cat getting along with a deer must be a riot.
I like cats, but I've never had one that wouldn't dump me if a neighbor fed it better .

Again- thanks, gents for the kind words.
Well-treated dogs lead an idealic life: eat, drink and lie around licking body parts "because they can."
Toss in some sex and a Sunday football game... what man hasn't envied that kind of life?
