p.1 #1 · Where have you sold a wedding gown you used for a shoot?

Bought a used wedding gown in December, and used it in a shoot:

Since I'm not seriously dating any girl right now, it needs to find another shoot to be in or even another wedding.

Where have you had success in selling these things?

Local thrift store, and there are orgnaizations that take used gowns to donate them to brides in need and the like.

Good suggestions which I appreciate.

Craigslist ghostlisted me because I sold too much stuff there. Seriously- Google "Ghostlist, Craigslist", and you'll see what I mean.

E-Bay- I don't think I want to know how much it would cost to ship a gown that I only paid $175 for.

This was for a shoot with a model.

Cuz, you know, prospective clients will now look at my portfolio and say "Wow! I'll look like a size 2 if I hire Matt to cover my wedding!" We won't get into proper diet and exercise being a more realistic approach...

I'll wind up being a groom in need if I just give away things that I paid $175 for. But I appreciate the suggestion.

+ 1 on thrift store / goodwill. you can use it as a deduction for your tax.

Two possibilities:

1. Propose to the model. The dress fits her already so you don't have to deal with the trouble of finding a cinderella to fit the dress you own.

2. Where did you buy the dress? Can you sell it the same way you bought it?

One more thing...

I say this only because you linked to the shoot rather than just saying "I used it for a shoot" and leaving it at that... have you considered the possibility that perhaps YOU could get further use out of the dress? If I were to buy a dress to do a model shoot I'll be honest with you and say that I'd at the very least hook up the shoot in one of the most memorable, most epic locations I could get into... and you better believe that the end result would have to kick the ass of anything I've ever shot in an Embassy Suites.

and any kind of "there aren't epic locations around these parts" isn't going to fly. I don't care where you are, there HAS GOT to be something more interesting than a holiday-inn hotel room.

Hire an aspiring model (or get a cute friend) who fits the dress, create a bridal workshop shoot out, find a cool location, charge some nominal fee for each attendee and make your money back !

Customarily your business plan would include modeling fee's and props, goods, etc.. This should be deductible as a business expense.. Also that plan should include how, what to do with unneeded items, such as dresses... Thinking before spending is a good thing.. Give it away and claim the loss..
