Saba aka OldProf with his recent post reminded me to put this thread together.
I saw this last summer. Suffice to say that the tern was freed and it flew seemingly unharmed.
In that particular section of Ontario lake, Common terns fish a lot, often in the proximity of the shore. There is also a good number of casual/opportunistic anglers who never catch anything because there is no big fish to be had there. Most of them fish without a proper permit. Real pros do not waste their time in spots like that. The government authority with jurisdiction doesn't seem interested in enforcing the fishing regulations in that place.
Wow. Happy ending indeed. We had a humpback whale get tangled with crab pots and it has been swimming around the island dragging the pots and line. Sad to see it.
