I'd also love to see some photos of the 150-500 since that seems to be neck and neck with the Nikkor 80-400 on the poll. Most of what I've found just searching for the 150-500 online were not very sharp so I wand to see what it's really capable of.

Having owned two Tamron 200-500's, I would not recommend this lens. It does not have a focus-limiter, no VR, and the AF is slow and noisy.

Morris is without a doubt the master of BIF with the 80-400.

I'm looking for a good all around big zoom lens. Other than Zoo Animals and the various birds in my yard, I'd like the flexibility to shoot airshows and birds in flight. The BIF and Airshow probably rules out the Nikkor due to its slow focus but from what Ive read it's sharper than the sigs which is a +. I know most peoples preference is the 70-200 plus 2xTC or but that is out of my budget since the VR is a must and I'm not interested in a prime because as I mentioned above, I need/want flexibility. The Nikon 80-400VR works fine at air shows. I've used it with no problems. Use the lenses limit switch and a top-end body and it's great!

I thought the Sigma 120-300 had great reviews?

I use this lens on my 7D, 1D II, & 1Ds II and it is super sharp, with great IQ..

Last year I bought the Sigma 150-500 OS as a holiday lens. It's not the greatest but it works pretty good with enough light. My example even works well at 500mm.

It's a Kalong, a rather big Bat. :-)
60-70 cm high and a wing-span of about 1,5 m.
