i have ordered both cameras in the hope of making a final decision before the d800 arrives in mid march. since the d800e has neutralized the anti aliasing filter, i am thinking the jury is out concerning 1080 video sampling without the antialiasing feature...its downsampled compared to a full frame still. any thoughts, comments from those who have some experience with the other nikon cameras that do video? thanks in advance..bill
We already struggle with aliasing and moire when the frame gets resized to 1080p, I can't image how removing the anti-alias filter is going to make that any better.... but I'm willing to let someone prove me wrong
I think Dave is right. The non "E" version is what I'll be getting for just that reason since I plan on shooting video with this camera as well as stills.
I didn't see your question there. But this seemed pretty clear:
"Oh…one last thing, any video shooters out there AVOID the D800E. It has no low pass filter which means aliasing and moire hell! It is designed to give more detail and resolution. We don’t need it!"
I shot both cameras side by side and made a few observations:
The D800 did not produce, moire or false color on a suit top belonging to a gentleman I was recording, the D800e did produce false color and moire.
It was expected and now I verified it for myself. That was the biggest pet peeve of DSLR video, so the D800e is off my list.
