I know that a lot of people wanted IS in the new 24-70mm zoom but I for one like the new primes with IS. 24mm is my favorite focal length and I wouuld love to slap a SMALL, sharp, 24mm prime on the front of my 5DII. IS would be icing on the cake. I have high hopes for the performance of these new primes.

I think it has some promise. If you want a lot better than the 24-70,24-105,tamron 28-75 on FF at 24mm or so then there are not many options now other than fast super expensive primes.
Not quite sure why they left out UD glass when it costs $850 though, that may have made it truly killer, as it is the new zoom appears to beat it which is a bit odd and almost appears penny pinching cheap, but who knows.
But even so it should give one pretty solid landscape quality for half the price of stuff like 24 1.4 II, zeiss 25, etc.

$850 MSRP, I'd think you can get it for $700 new. $550 at B&S forum .
Same here... I'd be willing to pay $500-$600 for one. I'd love to have a small wide prime with good IS for low light work. I'd rather have that than a 24Lii. Looking forward to buying one for my 5Dii.
When I first saw them -- and that they weren't L-series -- I couldn't help but think that I would have no use for them; I already have f/2.8 and IS at those focal lengths (and more) with my 17-55.
Then I realized that these will work on full-frame bodies, which of course my 17-55 won't. If I had a FF camera I'd look very closely at these new lenses.

I have a 24LII so these don't interest me.
I might consider selling my 24 1.4 II for the 24 2.8 IS to get some cash back, unless I decide for 24-70 II instead (or a D800 ). $700 bucks back in the pocket would be no small thing.
The 28 would have to replace what I use now: C/Y Zeiss 28 f2.8 for quality, and my 23 year old Canon 28 f2.8 for AF. But I have said before that Canon would not redesign non-L wide angles during this century, and I am super pleased that they have!
This makes me believe that a non-L 50mm will be released before long, with IS, I hope. Such a weird choice (new non-L wide angles), makes me think Canon only did this for the video market.

I rather spend $700 more to get the best.. then I dont have to think about 24mm anymore...
1.4 is more important to me than IS, I am addicted to available light shooting with the 24L. In the case of something longer like an 85IS/2.0 or something, then I may be willing to trade IS for some aperture.
I think this will become a serious alternative to the Samyang offerings.
I have a 35/1.4 and had pre-ordered a 24/1.4
But the Samyang 24 was $800!
I am not much on available light, especially at that focal length
My main needs are landscape where sharpness at f5.6 -- f8.0 matters.
Having it with IS & AF makes more attractive, even if its not L.
Now the proof will be in the MTF plots, & the 3rd party reviews.
I will wait.
