How will the D800 perform with the like of 200mm f/2, 300mm f/2.8 AF-S II, and the 600mm f/4 VR?

Probably well. Who knows. All I have seen are a bunch of uninteresting (to me) wedding shots posted so far.

Would like to see some pics, from the select few that have the camera, address this question.

i have a 500vr, and my guess would be that with all the pixels you will be able to crop the cr*p out of an image and get really, really, really, close...if it were only a bit faster in terms of fps it would be perfect for good light wildlife shooting. i don't think you need 9 fps, but something more than 4fps in raw would have been nice.

My d3x performs very well with my 300 f2.8. I am really looking forward to seeing how it performs on the d800. When I owned the 200 it was top notch on the d3x I would expect the same on the d800.

I don't see why the images would be anything other than excellent -- after all those are premium lenses. But the true impact of teleconverters will start to become an issue. And discussions about long-lens technique, formerly reserved for supertelephoto owners, will break into the mid-range focal lengths.

I think I'll buy some stock in Gitzo!

If they work on the D7000, they should work fine on the D800, because the pixel pitch is pretty much the same.

++2 the slightest camera shake at lower shutter speeds will reveal a world of hurt. As the D3x does. 36mp will only magnify our mistakes more.
