To be frank there are people on FM who like to "kvetch" and why not. If you don't like their "kvetching" then I suggest you stop reading their posts, but I do suspect you positively enjoy "kvetching" about people who "kvetch".
You are an "anti-kvetch" kind of "kvetcher" yourself.
Nah, it's a temporary reaction to the forum being over-run by gear-addicted fanbois: There's panic in the streets! Canon hasn't announced a camera! Canon doesn't know how to run a company or make a profit or a usable camera! We're doomed!
I much prefer posting informative writing about photography, like these posts a few hours ago:

Recently I came across a local San Clemente shooter. She shoots with a Rebel XSi coupled with the kit lens. (18-55mm)
Look what she can do with this "equipment". That should put the gear talk into perspective. http://www.flickr.com/photos/didenze/sets/72157625201623175/
Thanks for sharing, and more proof it's about timing and location (and post skills) than gear.
I can't wait until I get to visit California again.
That said, this *is* a gear forum and I *am* a gear-head, so I love reading most of the commentary on the camera and the thoughts from fellow photogs, whether I agree with them or not.
It does seem there has been a definite decrease in signal to noise ration in recent weeks at a time when there is an increase in announced new gear that is worthy of discussion. But I agree with Monito on this. Canon has announced a killer 18 MP high end but Nikon announced an attractive 36 MP mid-range - what is the world coming too?
