So with Nikon's D4 and D800 being totally different cameras, and Canon doubling the price on a staple lens the 24-70 2.8. It just made me want to do the math on what starting a new kit would be. I personally own a Leica M9 and 5D mk2 and use both professionally. I have no plans on upgrading anything. But with all the new releases and Canon's 5D mk2 successor imminent it seems like the investment for just getting into the field has increased dramatically.
Well, let's keep in mind that I'm already in the field, and find no need for a D4 or a 70-200 (had one, sold it). Perhaps a better rephrase would be "it seems the price of having the latest and greatest just increased". But there's no surprise there. I will admit it's slightly interesting Nikon was cheaper for this kit. Then again, if you priced it out with a 24/35/50/85 prime setup (assuming "g" series lenses for nikon), it would be a different story. Unfortunately, I fall into the prime category.
