I just got back yesterday from a 5-day trip to the Salton Sea, staying in my travel trailer Discovery. I've been there at least once a year for the past 6 years, and the changes are striking. Off Garst Road near Red Hill Marina the sea has receded about a mile. And recovery is uncertain, though officials apparently have said the Sea should survive if only to cut down on the ensuing dust in the Coachella Valley (i.e., Palm Springs). Never mind saving the birds, or ecosystem, we can't have dust on PS's golf courses! The following landscapes were taken by the Canon 40D/17-55 L IS lens, and the birds by the 7D/500 f4 prime mounted on the BushHawk. All shot in RAW, converted to JPEG in DPP, then tweaked in PSPX3. Comments and/ or criticism welcome.
Nice shots, Steve. Thanks for the updates. This is one of my favorite places to photograph, but as you pointed out, the loss of water is destroying the place.

Steve,
Talking about roughing it... NOT Looks like a great time was had.
Hopefully we will get some much needed rain soon. The GBH nesting tree was amazing
I still say you're the Ken Burns of our forum, and I mean that as the greatest of compliments Steve.
You make us experience your outings in such a wonderful way with both your images and commentary.
Wonderful Say's Phoebe, and I really enjoyed seeing all of the GBH's and their nests... cool shot.

Nice set Steve. Especially like the last two.

Thanks George. The Sea is really an amazing place. It covers such a large area that you never know what you might find there. That Wilson's Snipe was a complete surprise.

Thanks Tim my friend! I know what a perfectionist you are so I really appreciate your comments. That Phoebe certainly did position himself against the right bg and perch, didn't he? Next time you come down here for a few days we'll have to visit The Sea -- it takes about 3 hours to get there from here.
