I have no midrange zoom (been shooting primes), but I will probably get this lens as the range and new quality are appealing. May get whatever the new FF body they release on the $3k range instead.
I want to see how this lens performs in real life....
I sold my 24-70 to get the 24L,135L and 50 1.4...
I really feel the need of 24-70 versatility for events.... and if this lens is a killer...it will get me thinking..
I have a hard time believing that it will match the 24L in quality...in real life usage.
If it does, there is no point for me to own the 24L II anymore.
Although the 24L II is sharp enough from 1.4 and there are some stops from 1.4 up until 2.8..
As good as it seems to be, my EF lens purchases are on pause until Canon release a high resolution camera. The Nikon D800 and D800E sample images are just that good. Not only resolution, but tonality and clean shadows at base ISO, and at that resolution, really smell medium format. I want to see what Canon deliver on the camera side before buying more expensive glass.
First results and pricing. 70-200 L II price came down to its predecessors one within a year. If This 24-70 will reach the old price it could become interesting. Else I go back to the 24-105. The range is more usefull and IS is a big help for me. IQ will not be comparable, but it served me fine.
