Any thoughts about the price drop for the D700 after this is released?

This camera looks to be about the same size as the D7000

Yup
Will be able to take it more places, and it'll be that little bit less intimidating.

I certainly am looking forward to a hands on test at the local shop,, I'm afraid that when I bring my CF card home for review it will end up with a call to B&H,,

This is going to be interesting for me. I'm still using my trusty D300 with 24-70, 70-200 2.8.I would love to upgrade, but, do I NEED to? well hmm. What I like to shoot is the Automotive scene (races, gatherings), Travel photography, street, and on occasion I'll be at a place that I'll need the low light capabilities high ISO. So don't know if I should pick up a used D3s or this new D800. I would love the higher FPS in RAW. Currently I have to switch to jpeg to get the 6 FPS on my D300. The size of the D3S also has me hesitant, I really do not want to lug that thing traveling. What's your guys opinion. Thanks!

Just guessing that the Official Nikon announcement of the D800 will be early this AM.

In their invitations Nikon said that the new product unveiling in Hong Kong will occur at 1600 hours HK time.

Accessed the World Clock website and as I recall 1600 Hong Kong is 0500 EST.

So I am anticipating the D800 to be officially posted in about 6 hours from now.

Slightly bigger than a D7000, and 120 grams heavier. Very nice.

I really want to know what the extent of PP was, because the ISO640 image looks very good (though now that barely qualifies as moderate ISO ). As for resolution, the library image isn't doing too badly

Why does it matter if a lens is now the chokepoint? Did you / do you throw your cameras or film out if the lens outresolved the sensor?

When you have $16k+ in lenses, it matters mucho

Considering that the DX mode is 15.3 mp, this should actually be less demanding on a lens than the 16mp D7000, right?
