For anyone that knows my wrestling posts, I like to shoot tight. This is no exception. Some of these are matside at 400mm with a Nikon 200-400. Although I shot a lot of full body shots, very few are posted here. I just think it's all about the face at this age. I realize it's not everybody's cup of tea.
Awesome shots! Number 3 is my favorite. As a HS wrestler I can tell you that kid on the bottom is in trouble. I didn't know kids this young actually wrestled.
Mr. Alesse,
if you are insane, then i want to go to there
I, personally, have learned a great deal from seeing/reading
your posts and c&c.
I regularly quote...shoot tight and, well you know the rest.
You really rock your gear.
GREAT set and
thanks for sharing w/ us.

Nice Shots as always. Maybe a dumb question but, what makes you think of going B&W? Does something in the shot trigger the thought or do you just try it and see if it looks good?
Are you kidding me? I regularly get to sit matside, and would never have thought 200-400 was practical. These leave me speechless. I will go back under my rock...

Usually the contrast between subject and BG and overall light falloff but also sometimes contrast within the subject (ie shadow and light on the face), overall skin texture, and catch light in the eyes.
My favorite sport to shoot is wrestling. I always shoot my Canon 70-200 2.8L lens mat side.
I want to be in there with the kids. I want the people looking at them to be there see things they don't get to see from the stands. I love to shoot the bottom guy's facial expressions but the problem I have is there great to look at but there mom don't buy them. So I have to find the best shots with there kid on top! I love the shots you took. MY KIND OF SHOOTER!
