Hey everyone, I normally shoot fashion but I had an opportunity to shoot a wedding in scotland, so I took it. I spent countless hours on this book trying to make it artistic and stylish. And in the end the couple doesn't really like the book. Did I do something wrong? Before doing the book they loved the photos. I told them that if they wanted me to do the book it is going to have more a fashion sense to it. They knew my work before and I even told them that if they wanted something more traditional, I think it would be better if they used someone else to do the book.

Wedding is all about the bride. Not enough bride and too many groom & detail. Also the processing is all over the place to make it coherent to one another.

Speaking honestly this is one of the weirdest album layouts I have ever seen. Kudos for posting it though because you need honest feedback.
I would say lose ALL the overlays and fades. Also having some pages black and some pages white some with swirls some without is just an assault on your eyes. Keep the layout uber simple. I would actually say hire someone to do it for you. Many of us do. We are not album designers we are photographers. If you feel like you cannot deliver 100% quality then outsource it.

I don't understand how this layout is "fashion" inspired. This looks to me like every dated wedding album I've seen from the early 90's... from the white vignetting, to the heavy overlay of images.
I have a feeling that they're not happy because you told them you'd deliver one thing and ended up delivering the opposite. I would agree with hardlyboring's advice.

I think you just have to many distracting elements in this layout. Fades, white vignettes, transparent backgrounds, wacky-sized images, drop shadows, different border colors, etc.
When in doubt - keep it simple. In terms of wedding album layouts, less is more.

To add what have been said previously, you need to think about bleed & safe zone. You have a lot of borders that are really close to the edge. Typically it is not a good idea. Also the bride looking at the window, she will be right in the middle of the gutter and I think it will look horrible.

Hey,
Album looks weird, maybe because every spread is made differently than previous one and another one. To many styles.
What I usually avoid is black background in wedding books- that just doesn't work for me, but maybe that's just me.
Another thing is consistency of the effects- borders and shadows should be the same in a spread (IMO).
Pictures look good, although they could use some PP.
Simplicity is your friend nowadays- try photojunction (many of us do), simple and for free...

The good news is that you're not necessarily dealing with crazy clients who cannot be satisfied.
I would echo many of the comments above... the design is not my style.
Now assuming that you have only shown the couple a tentative design and haven't gone through the expense of actually laying out the book... I would suggest you have a chat with them and have them tell you what they DO like about the album and what they DON'T like. I tend to like the simple, clean, unelaborate album designs that are popular here. That doesn't mean that your clients will. Frankly I've seen TONS of albums that are no more appealing to me as the one you presented here, being shown at bridal shows and garnering brides' attention.

Probably the worst album I've ever seen and I find it hard to believe that you're a fashion photographer... this is reeeeeaaaaallllyyyyy old school design (as in I just learned photoshop switching from film, look what i can do).
Simple is good. Your processing is really weird too with all the desaturation and odd B&W conversions. I'd start over with the processing for starters and try to keep it natural looking and tweak a little from there (crank the PP back about 9 notches).
I'd also be more selective with what goes into the album and the overlays / patterns etc etc. really take away from the story, if there's one in there somewhere.
This is your 1st wedding album design, so it's understandable. This is the sort of style you typically see at a lot of wedding shows etc. (and in GraphiStudio's samples, for example)... but I don't think you'll find many who dig that style these days.
