p.1 #1 · Asilomar State Beach

I've been having a coastal kind of year so far. I think this recent trip was my 7th since the new year. Here's a beautiful sunset at Asilomar State Beach the other evening.

Nice shot, that was a beautiful moment. If you had just waited a little bit more until the sun be lower in the horizon or almost dissapeared, you probably ha a better shot. This is a shot for a "Neutral Density Gradient filter". You exposed for the water, but the sky is burned out. Also a Polarizer filter would have helped.

This is the kind of shots that one don't have too much time. 3 or 5 shots and that's it.

Rosemary... it is indeed a beautiful sunset. Foreground to background... lots going on in this scene. I like the choice of shutter speed and corresponding effect on the moving water, and the setting sun doesn't bother me as is... I imagine it was pretty bright in person!

I do have a second shot later when the sun was setting which I can work up as an HDR. And I did use a three stop filter. Back to photoshop for me.

Delightful image, Rosemary. Lovely light and I can hear the surf.

Hey Rosemary,

Overall a very nice shot here! I like the way the water looks. I think the sky should be a bit darker though, as suggested, an ND Grad would have been perfect here. You almost made me choke with the HDR comments... not sure you really need to do HDR on this, you just need a shot where you underexposed the sky a stop or two to blend in on the top.

Jim, that's what I meant, I have a later shot with the sky a stop or two less...aren't we calling all of those blends HDR whether manual or via software. I need to keep up with the lingo.
