Unfortunately the only way you truly appreciate how priceless these are is when they grow up and are gone (a further cruel twist being that happens figuratively before it happens literally). I dreamed about my oldest son last night - that's how much I miss them. Hang on to these days by making all the memories you can. These are excellent in their own right and for now you judge them on the technical merits. There will come a time, sooner than you wish, that you will cherish them for the content, not the quality.
Thank you for helping me remember the good times this morning and exorcising a little of the sadness.
Looks like a fun day in the snow. Beautiful kids. Pictures like these are why I love taking pictures. Now I feel like I need to go photograph mine. I wish we had some snow
The camera should be fine when you are shooting in the cold (where there is so little moisture. Cold air is dry air). Before you go back indoors, it's best to seal it tightly in a plastic bag and let it sit for an hour inside warming up.
It's the warm moist air of indoors that will condense on your cold camera innards that you want to avoid.
It was some of the wettest snow I've seen in awhile, so I wanted to have a little extra protection. Basically, if it wasn't < 32 deg, we'd have a ton of rain falling. Even with the 5d II and 24-70, I still don't feel that great about exposing to that much moisture.
I didn't put in a plastic bag, but rather sort of sealed up in my camera case. Not perfect, but at least some protection.
Well, after viewing these awesome photos.. I feel bad that I have not played out in the snow with my kids this year.
I will HAVE to get out there and play with them!
Wonderful shots of your kids. I really enjoyed them.
I had both my 5DII and my 30D out for several hours in the freezing rain to grab some snow shots a couple weeks ago. I kept having to wipe them down with a paper towel they were getting so wet. They appeared to take it quite well. I forgot about the plastic bag deal when bringing them back in, glad I didn't cause any problem. Of course we lost power so the house was a little cool inside, maybe that helped.
