Hey Kent,
This was the set up for a daguerreotype I did today. I was testing a new Schneider 150mm LF lens at
F2.8 (fairly fast, as large format goes). Strangely it took me to a 4 minutes + shot and was developed for
one hr in sunlight (becquerel much slower than mercury) and it is now being bathed by 750 watts halogen
lights in my garage, going on 1hr 1/2 + and still not yet done. Tomorrow I shall test it at a 5 minutes
shot (meaning that although the lens claims F2.8, it is more like F3.0).
The lesson is to test a lens properly and to stay with it once I figure out the appropriate time/light
relationship. It is important to constantly document technical details of every shot, the only way to
eventually understand process without resorting to external objects.
Thanks for the comment.
