p.1 #1 · Ice Fishing in Wisconsin

Hi Everyone,

I went ice fishing in Wisconsin last weekend. Unfortunately, I didn't bring a real camera but I did manage to get these two with my cell phone. What do you think? Any comments/critiques are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

I really like your composition in the first image. Cameras like your phone and compact large sensored mirrorless are the future of photography, you just watch.

Your second capture here just breathes cold. Nice exposure.

Both of these say "Brrrrrrr!" I love northern Wisconsin in the winter. What lake was this? I'm surprised you were able to go ice fishing (which I also loved to do when I lived in Minnesota). I've heard reports that given the extremely mild winter, many lakes are not frozen enough to allow ice houses and vehicles on them. While the second shot is very nice with its wind-blown snow suggesting a frigid day, I really like the first. The one ice-fishing house on the large expanse of lake really communicates isolation and a sense of on-the-edge survival. Great shots for a cell phone!

Hey Joe,

It's amazing what cell phone cameras can do today, I use my iphone to record the conditions as I shoot with my DSLR. But as cool as they can look, they are lacking as you can see with the blown out highlights in #1 contrasted with the murky shadows... their dynamic range is just limited.

A lot of potential here, too bad you couldn't capture it with something better.
