I'm considering buying a Rotatrim 24" Mastercut Professional rotary cutter to trim printer paper. I only print up to 13 X 19 (for now), so this seems like the right size cutter. Will this cut small photo paper too, like trimming wallet size photos?
I purchased this cutter last year--it cleanly slices through or shaves slivers off my canvas media, ditto for paper..
Even though it cuts cleanly in both directions--limit your cuts to right-2-left. This will prevent your media from micro slipping and losing the tight square edges. If you remove the metal guard from the cutting head it becomes possible to cut a full 25 in--this important me since I cut roll media to various lengths.
If you are cutting from roll media, do not select the cutter size based on the roll width, consider the longest lengths required--ditto for 17x25 shts trimmed/cut.
Check the data sheet for more info.
The Pro M24 is available from Adorama for <$300 with free shipping. And it will last longer than all your photo gear, if not yourself. Obviously I highly recommend it--the company founder said it right: "My competition is my best salespeople!"
good luck irv weiner
PS: if you desire to print a strip of your own postage stamps the M24 will trim them neatly--even with an adhesive tape on the backside!!
I was considering a 24-30" Rotatrim or other quality rotary cutter early last year after the addition of an Epson 3880. I happened to check Craigslist and found a Pro M42 model nearby for $299. I see a Pro M24 in NYC currently listed for $125 as of 1/31 - http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/bfs/2827504407.html.
It's worth a look. The extra length of the M42 has already been a bonus over the 24-30" models I figured would hold me forever.
Just checked craigs list and found a 24" like now Rotatrim for $199. But it's about a 90 minute drive, one way. I'll keep looking. There is also a 36" Rotatrim for $100 that's closer, but it looks old and worn.
