First, I have the privilege to post "For Sale" items here and over the past week I have sold a lot of Nikon gear: D300, 14-24, 24-70, SB800, and more. So this post is not an effort to sell something without paying for the B&S privilege! Using the B&S forum for guidance as well as pricing at B&H I was able to decide upon a price for everything - that I was happy with and it has all sold so the prices must have been fair. This is the oldest lens I have and the only one that I do not have the box for. I have the lens, the metal Nikon HS-7 hood supplied with the lens when new, and front & rear Nikon caps. Condition - focusing is smooth and aperture blades are oil free and "snappy" (in a good way!). There's one prominent piece of dust in the lens but it does not show up even when the lens is used in really close Macro work. I bought it new but I have been through so many Nikon lenses I cannot for the life of me remember when - the serial number tells me if was made from1993 to 2005, when the now current Nikon 105 f2.8 AFS - G lens replaced the one I have. I think I bought it in 1999 or 2000 - if that makes any difference. The glass is perfect front and rear, the hood is perfect, and the body - all over - has one messed up thing. Once a divider in a camera bag had the velcro come loose and two lenses rubbed together scratching the barrel - as the attached photo shows. Over the "Made In Japan" in an area about the size of a quarter coin there are scratches in the paint. I am getting out of photography all together due to eye/vision problems so there's no reason to keep it because of XXXX. What would you sell this lens for?
Sorry for the bad photos but like I said I sold almost everything and I had to borrow a semi-functional D90 to take these photos.
Thanks for reading this long rambling post! Bill
Bummer on the vision loss problem, Bill. I hope that there's something the docs can do for you to help you keep what you have now.
KEH shows a couple of those in their inventory without the hood, running between $379 and $399, BGN grade. This looks like a beautiful copy, and if I didn't already have one I'd buy it from you
There's no reason you shouldn't be able to get $400 or few dollars more. I sold one in July for this price range. It included the box, but no hood. The condition was similar. It's a great lens. I only sold mine to raise funds for another lens. Just put a price you think is fair and see what offers you get.
