can't get it to work reliably with my 5DII and the CF adapter. Ideally, I'd buy the Eye-Fi pro card where I could save large raws and send small jpgs to the ipad, but I just haven't done it yet

I'm very new to photography in general, but definitely not to technology. I actually wrote up an article on LightAndMatter.org on using the Eye-Fi card with an iPad. I have a 60D, so I don't have any experience w/a CF adapter, but I am using RAW+JPG (small) for fast transfers to the iPad (only JPGs transfer).
It works pretty well. The app still downloads the pictures even if you close it out. I typically close out the Eye-Fi app and pull up the Photos app (standard app that comes with the iPad) for viewing. At times it seems like I have to go back to the Eye-Fi app if the retrievals stop, but if you are shooting fairly consistently, it seems like it stays connected better.

I just started using the eye if card in a 1Dmk2 it works fine, jpgs are viewed on iPad and raw are are saved. I hoped to use my 5D2 but seems there a are many known issues.
A friend who does a lot of equip reviews found that CF card adapters have a piece if metal in them that muck up the WIfi . Hopefully someone will figure it put because it's pretty cool once you get it set up.

The website indicates that it will not work with a CF adapter. Many inquiries as to when they will have a CF version have gone un-answered.
Maybe it is time to develop a DIY solution for us 5D2 users.
