I've been here 9 years and had to take a break for a few years due to unforeseen blah blah blah. I estimate I have bought and sold over 30 grand worth of gear here. I have been buying gear here again as of January (YEAHHHH) and I'm still impressed with the great members here. There's just one thing I have noticed. There are quite a few sellers here that are calling items "10" or "9" and there's no way in hell. I know the rules and that's why I'm not calling some of them on it in their posts but really? For example....(this is not referring to any ONE seller)...I have owned this lens for "x" amount of years with no problems. It comes with paperwork and the box. There are some small chips etc...and (insert function here) is a bit loose or sticky whatever. Yet they rate it as a 10 or 9. Not in my book. I have always under graded items with the intent of the buyer hopefully being more than happy one they receive it that it was better than described. So...Is it me? This is by far my favorite forum and I intend to keep spending my dollars here. In fact i got to go and check my tracking numbers and see if my 1D series bodies will be here today or tomorrow. Adios.

I get a kick out of some of the product shots of supposedly 'mint' gear. I'm with ya there...
better to be tough on yourself rating items for sale, and have the buyer pleasantly pleased

I hear often from folks buying on KEH that they're amazed at how good even "bargain" lenses are. That is definitely the kind of place I'd prefer to do my shopping. That said, we're also into a fairly new regime with regard to how lenses are listed and displayed. I haven't listed anything since this new format was put in place so I don't know exactly how the template is set up. I also haven't bought anything here recently so haven't been able to evaluate anyone's honesty regarding rating. But I certainly am more interested in descriptions WITH photos than any number someone ascribes to a product. If a seller isn't interested in satisfying my needs in that regard I'm not likely to do business with him or her. And I'm also a huge fan of the feedback system which permits me to read what others have to say about dealing with prospective buyers. I'm not likely to deal with someone who hasn't already demonstrated trustworthiness.
Welcome back! And remember there is much more to FM than simply a Buy and Sell board. The real gold here is in relationships that can be fostered with other folks who share your enthusiasm for photography AND gear...
In my experience, they underestimate the condition of their inventory. A few years back, I bought a used lens graded in a 90% range, though I thought it was 100%.

I agree on the picture with the sale and this new format is new to me as well. As far as the last comment about the relationships here.......I'm glad to be part of a place where there still are MANY people here that were here when I started coming here and participating 9 years ago. ))
I copy the sellers description into the message box on Paypal so if there is a question the 'case worker' can read along. I've had sellers cancel when they see it --- works for both of us.
Definitely not you. I was just looking to see what I could sell two different pieces of glass for. I was blown away at the condition of some of the gear listed at 9 and 10. I looked at one listing that said "some dust in lens". There was so much crud in that lens you couldn't even count the dust specs not to mention other wear and it was still marked as condition 9.
On a separate note I'm really blown away how used prices have dropped this year on some glass.
