p.1 #1 · Site for mobiles

Hi all,

As many of you I have built a mobile version of my regular Site which automatically displays if the user enters from one of these devices, the thing is that:
1 - It doesnt have many visits yet 2 or 3 a day which doesnt worry me of course as the big one gets the visits.

2 - According to my counter the visits in the mobile site only last seconds so the basically click away !!!! which kind of worries me.

I think the site is ok for being a mobile version.

Do you think people still dont like mobile versions or may think it is a waste of time so the wait to see the regular version later on if they do

in my experience, people aren't going to "play" on photo heavy sites on their phones. Even with today's iphones and such, its just not a great experience.

Is your "counter" Google Analytics?

my site is not that phone friendly and according to my GA I get like 45% of my visits from phones....
I think it is important to have a site that works on the mobile but lets face it 99% of sites have some kind of problem on a phone.

Doug, do you have goal tracking on analytics?

I'd be interested to know the conversion rate you get from phone visits (ie, contact form completions)

according to google analytic:

94% from IE, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Opera ...

6% from mobiles such as iphone, BBerry ... average time no more than a minute compere to 5 minutes when they see the big one.

I built a mobile site as well, and I kept everything simple. Big buttons, slideshows that you can swipe, and easy email contact. I believe on phones, you have to simplify everything for a better experence. I get a lot of hits from mobile browsers, especially from mobile facebook. My mobile site is at http://www.m.tomharmonphotography.com. Check it out on your phone.

No one is going to do any serious wedding photographer shopping over a phone. Tablet... maybe, but still iffy.

IMO, it works just as well if you have *one* site that works well on both mobile devices and desktops.

Jaime, that's one of the most important thing I wanted to make sure, that my website was friendly to mobile devices.

Check out both www.mokaziphotography.com (it's getting updated though with some new features which will make things a lot more interactive for clients)

and www.dcindianweddingphotographer.com as you'll see it's very simple look

When I opened your site on my ipad just now, it gets stuck in an endless loop going between movil.jmraso.com and www.jmraso.com

When I open it on my iPhone, it works. That being said, when I go to the gallery, the images are such small thumbnails and I can't scale them that it's pretty much useless in my opinion.

Open up my website on a mobile device and see how I do it - I'm of the same mindset as Jaime that I like it to be a cohesive experience between desktop and mobile, not totally separate experiences. Now, I'm not saying it's perfect by a long shot, but it does show nice, large images and the layout is exactly the same, except for the way slideshows appear which has to be a little different due to technical limitations. http://kurtiskronk.com

I use WPTouch on my wordpress site that automatically kicks mobile visitors into it. I really like the mobile app technology and I wanted to offer an experience for the little screen visitors, you never know!

Hi all,

Thakns Kurtis for warning me, I couldnt check out how it works for ipads probably I went too far as my mobile version has php code that prevent desktops from displaying the mobile version except Safari, not too usefull but very problematic for this endless loop that happens.

I am just about to rewritte the code.

I had in mind to change the size of the photos of the gallery.

I just fixed the loop thing, hopefully .

Please tell me if it happens.

Thanks a lot,

Jaime.
