Is there anywhere to get the software CDs that come with a Mark IV? The download fron Canon will not work unless an earlier version of the software is installed on the computer, or you have a CD of an earlier version of the software. Any idea how/where I can get a CD that will allow me to install the Canon software?
You could try Canon but the disk comes with all Canon DSLRs so perhaps someone you know can lend you a copy. As far as I am aware, the software is the same for all models and not specific to the 1D IV.
There was a link on the above site for a download of version 1 of DPP that does not require a disc or prior installation. After installing version 1 the latest version installed with no problems.
I don't understand why Canon is so protective of this software. It's not as though anyone without a Canon DSLR is desperate to get hold of it - or even has any use for it.
I merely called Canon and asked for the software. They shipped me a packet that included the manual and software CD's at no charge. They said that was one of the perks for owning a 1 Series camera.
IEven though I was able to get the software installed without a disc, I want to be sure I can pass everything on to the next owner (we upgrade, right?) , plus I don't want to have to do two installs if I re-install in the future. So I called Canon. They charged me $19.95 plus $8.09 taxes and shipping. At least I will have the disc for the future.
DPP is an excellent RAW converter with top notch color rendering.
Autocorrection of lens aberrations is easy and quick.
Noise reduction is perhaps not quite up to standard, but is decent.
Zoom Browser does an excellent job of resizing JPEGs on the fly with good
image quality and realistic sharpness. It's great for sorting through pics
in hurry. And if you've ever wanted to show your pics in a slideshow, it
does a very good job of that. Finally, it is very good at displaying
HD Video from your Canon DSLR with reasonable loading of your processor
and little to no jerking in playback.
