I picked up a new D3s on Friday and had a chance to take it for a spin over the weekend as I had some games to shoot. No need to try ISO 12800 but I did push it up to 4000 on some of these just because ...
1. This play was blown dead by the ref as the ring crossed the plane of the blue line, which is a violation ... players can not carry (or in this case, lift) the ring over the line. The player actually received a pass & the ring crept up her stick & she couldn't get rid of it before hitting the line. http://topshelfsportsphotography.smugmug.com/photos/i-HPM8smF/0/X3/i-HPM8smF-X3.jpg
5. The goalies toss the ring to their team mates to keep the play moving. After a 5 count, the ref will blow the play down and the opposing team gets to start with the ring in one of the face off circles ... so there's an advantage to keep the play going at times. http://topshelfsportsphotography.smugmug.com/photos/i-rfFDTx5/0/X3/i-rfFDTx5-X3.jpg
Lots of sharp eyes, good job. Like them all but #3 is my favourite. My only suggestion is about your daughter's picture; crop out the other player just coming into the frame on the right.
DJ, it seems that Kathleen now wants to try 4 on 4 girls hockey this spring. After all these years skating around with a ring at the end of her stick, this puck thing just might give me some laughs! Guess I'll have to buy her a hockey stick now.
Thanks for taking a look ... ringette is pretty popular here in Canada as there's about 30 000 players. It's a fast sport and makes for some great photo ops. Check out this clip if you'd like to see a brief & humourous intro to the sport:
